Question

Please help! I am new to MAC and just got Popcorn 2. I am simply trying to bring in some DVD's that were burned by a windows roxio program. I copied them onto my hard drive with popcorn but they copied with a .toast extension. When I try to import this .toast file into imovie or idvd or final cut express the file is greyed out and I can't choose it. Do I have to change the format (file extension) to .mov or something. I thought this was supposed to be easy! Please help!

The video on a video-DVD is encoded in MPEG 2 format which iMovie and other editing applications cannot read. Even if they could you are not taking the correct approach.

Here's what I recommend.

Step 1: Open Popcorn and click on the "Player" tab at the top.

Step 2, Option A: Select DVD Disc on the left and insert a video DVD. (Quit DVD Player if it opens).

Or Step 2 Option B: Select Image File and choose one of the .toast disc images you saved to your hard drive.

Step 3: Click the Options button in the Popcorn window and choose the titles from the DVD or disc image that you want to use in iMovie.

Step 4: At the bottom of the Popcorn window next to the red button you'll see the kind of file it is set for exporting. Click on that name and choose MPEG-4 Player. Then click the button to start the conversion.

The applications you mentioned can read MPEG 4 video files.
