Question

Help! Roxio supposrt has been unable to answer this question. I have Toast Titanium 8. I created chapters in my movie in iMovie then selected Automatic Chapters in Toast 8 before burning my DVD. However, the burned movie lost my chapters and instead gave me chapters every five minutes.

I was able to import my chapters when I used TT 6.

Why can't I import my chapters? Does anyone know the answer to this? Thank you.

Thank. I will try this.

Just drag the whole iMovie package to Toast window. Chapters will be imported if you have the settings correct, but I can't a way to get the titles of the chapters to show up. Its has images from the vid, but no names.

Toast does not show chapter titles. It only creates chapter thumbnails if you choose the option to include scene menus.

Is there any way to add them? My problem is I have a 2.5 hr iMovie project. I have a single layer DVD burner. Toast will compress it, but menus are messed up. I'd love to find a hack that will allow me to save a dual layer disc image from iDVD and use Toast to compress it to a single layer dvd. Any ideas?

Any solution is going to cost you something. I'm presuming you have iDVD 6. If you get buy a DL disc burner you should get the ability to save DL disc images with iDVD. Toast then can use its Fit to DVD feature to compress the iDVD disc image to a single-layer disc if the movie isn't too long. I think 2-1/2 hours is okay but 3 hours is not. The problem with iDVD is that it only uses PCM audio which gobbles up available space on a single-layer disc so there isn't much left for the video. This also means the video quality isn't too good.

Another option is to purchase CaptyDVD 2 to encode and author your iMovie. It supports AC3 audio and has its own timeline where you place chapter markers. Its chapter menu can display thumbnails and/or text. Because of the length of your movie I'd choose CaptyDVD's 4 mbps encoding setting, save as a disc image and then, if necessary, use Toast's fit-to-disc feature to burn to a single-layer disc.

Personally, buying the DL drive is my first choice. I have purchased both these options and CaptyDVD is only used for very special circumstances while the LaCie Firewire drive is my workhorse drive.

I believe I read something about imovieHD6 that if you were to Export the movie and save to file then the Chapter content isn't saved like it used to be so if you didn't use the iDVD movie file inside the imovie project (select imovie project in finder and select show package contents) or go directly from imovie to DVD that would be a problem with maintaining chapters.
