Been away

mmace

Question

OK, I've been away for a few weeks and I now have a son!

now I'm back, has anything happened?

has there been any updates to the software?

any fixes?

does it work with Vista yet?

I found out yesterday that when ULead initially released DVD Movie Factory 5 you could create Blu-ray BDMV discs, HD-DVD discs and DVD's from the same project, and the BDMV discs worked in a lot of players as it had AACS (not sure if this bit's true but read it in 2 different places). They never got a license (or something) so had to pull it after only a week on sale, people are still using this software now as it's supposed to be good, and this was released in 2005!!!

I'm still trying to source a copy but no one seems willing to sell theirs (shows you how good it must be!)

Why did it take Roxio so long to get this out and it still doesn't work as well as something much older?!

Roxio really need to pull their fingers out as ULead could release a BDMV enabled Movie Factory at any time as they have it and it's working (well), they just need to sort things out with the BDA

Congratulations on your new son. Did it all go well?

A year ago was there even any BD software from SONIC? I don't know that even Scenarist BD was out then- good old Ulead, they should be selling Movie Factory for a bargain price of $60000 if their product and engineers are so good. LOL :)

Of course they never got DVD Workshop2 right, nor released a DVDWS3 because all the Beta testers said it had a cancer of bugs.

No new official updates, but you can ask Scott... ;)

I don't think \BDMV requires AACS, it's just that some players don't support it in any form. The latest firmware for the Sony BDP-S1 now supports \BDMV so there's hope that more players will follow...

you can't put aacs on a BD-R only on a replicated disc, so that information is wrong. when you build a BDMV disc with DVDit Pro HD it does place an AACS folder on the disc, but there is nothing in it.
thought as much, think you've told me that before, cheers

I've been looking for Blu Ray authoring software's for a while and when Movie Factory 5 came out , it was only able to create BDAV disk (copy without menus). Due to technical reason, they disabled that feature for sometime. Movie Factory 6 plus can still only do BDAV disks (It can do authoring with menu for DVD and HD DVD). As far as I know, for an affordable budget, only ROXIO DVDit Pro HD can do BDMV Blu Ray disks.

there was a version of Movie Factory available for about a week that did BDMV, not BDAV

EDIT:

I've just seen it working, an original release of DVD MF5, works great, can create menu's etc for Blu-ray discs, was out about 1.5 years ago, plays back fine in PDVD and shows up as a Blu-ray disc, has loads of folders that it creates.

will be trying DVDit Pro HD for the first time in quite a while tonight and tomorrow on my Vista PC (not tried it on there yet), will hopefully get some good results!

It's still strange that the Blu-Ray authoring feature was immediately removed (together with the BD burning module). Only the BDAV feature was restored after testing. Dou you know if the BDMV made were playing on stand alone players?

be careful with the Ulead software. It actually streeted around 9 months ago before there were any firm specs for BDMV on BD-R. I think there were multiple reasons why BDMV support was pulled a week or two later. The discs may work in some players, but when I checked it's output I found that the video streams were not BD compliant.
