Near-full discs won't play.

Hi.

I've been having problems viewing burned discs on my various DVD players. They work fine on my comp.

 

I've been trying to copy movies to a DVD+R using Disc Copier from ISO's and it works fine till I burn a disc that ends up taking up from 2/3rds to full disc capacity. A movie that only takes half the disc or less always works. Approaching 2/3rds or better I get a warning that the disc is unreadable (on one player) and plays on the other but playback skips a few frames every two seconds or so.

 

I'm using Philips' DVDs I bought in a 100 pack from Walmart at $38.00. Are these the problem?

 

Also. In trying to log in to this forum I have had to reregister three times and each time I go to log in it says I have the wrong Username/Password. I know I have entered the correct info. The only reason I can write this is because I just reregistered with a new User/PW and haven't logged out since I registered. I know how to register in forums as I've been doing so for many years. This is the first time I have encountered this.

The loggin problem is something we, as users, cannot help with. You'll need to try contacting Roxio for that problem.

 

If the DVDs play on your computer, then the DVDs are obviously readable so it's the DVD player.

 

A few things can make DVDs unplayable on your DVD player. Some will read only + or - . Some are sensitive to the type of dye on the DVD itself. Others (especially older players) don't have enough internal memory to play a homemade DVD without stopping or skipping.

 

Make certain that there are no fingerprints or dust on any part of the burned side of the DVD. DVD players are much more sensitive to fingerprints and dust than your computer.

 

I always buy my DVDs from an electronics store. They know how to handle and store DVDs properly before you buy them.

 

A couple of things you can try, but I don't know if it will help, is to defragment your hard drive before you burn the DVD. Make certain that you're disconnected from the internet and turn off your virus programs and spyware blockers. Don't 'multitask' when you're burning. Anything that tries to use the computer CPU can interfer with the burn and cause errors.

 

The first thing I'd try is another brand of DVD. You might want to check the website of the DVD burner manufacturer. They frequently have lists of the brands of DVDs that work best with their burners.

You can also try burning at a slower speed (I almost always use 4x max). That can help reduce errors in the burn.

I would try a different brand of media. I don't know who the manufacturer of Philips media is. Try Verbatim media.

 

Also, make sure that the firmware for your burner is the latest version.

Some MID's are CMC MAG, but not all.

 

If the op has EMC 7.5 with DVDinfo Pro why not do a error test on the disc with trouble. If he has write errors, it ends the guessing.

Thanks, cd. I thought that that may be the case, but I couldn't remember and was too lazy to look back at info that I have on media.
