Funky Error Message

Todd Gilbert

Question

I am trying to burn a dvd. The system possesses a Matshita UJDA775 DVD/CDRW; and I’m attempting to use Verbatim DVD-R, 8x discs as the target medium. I am running Windows XP.

The error message I am getting is this: “The target device cannot write to a medium large enough to fit the current data set size. [0x20000016]”. I need this translated into English.

I previously worked with Chris (on-line support), and he recommended I get the current Panasonic/Matshita firmware. My concern is that this is a company notebook pc, that has Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 Basic Edition installed, and I am concerned about randomly trying things until I get lucky. Is there a way to determine the source of the issue before I invest too much time trying the “shotgun” approach? Maybe I need to use a certain media type to record onto?

Thanks for your time.

Trouble is, your CDRW/DVD Combo 24x24x24x/8x Matshita Model # UJDA775 is a combo drive, that is, it can read CDs, read and write CD-R and CD-RW, and read DVDs.

To write a DVD, you need a DVD burner. Simply buying DVD burning software doesn't make a DVD-ROM a DVD burner.

Lynn is correct.

There also might be another problem. Some companies install software that will not allow you to write either CDs or DVDs on their laptop computers. You can read either one, but to protect customer and corporate confidentiality, information cannot be written to CDs or DVDs.

I have a friend with a company laptop that will allow only information to be exchanged with the company computer. Surfing the net is allowed, but not with sites that have uploads.
