EMC 9 Suite upgrade to EMC 9 Deluxe

hexe

Question

I just bought the retail version EMC 9 Suite. I didn't realize, that the Bias Sound Soap only comes with the EMC 9 Deluxe Suite. I am transferring LPs to CD. Can I upgrade to EMC Deluxe Suite or what other options do I have?

Thank you

Sound Editor is quite a good tool to clean up recorded LP files. I used it with satisfactory results before I got the de luxe version of EMC 9 with SoundSoap.

In fact now I use both SoundSoap and Sound editor, whose qualities are to some extent complementary.

Neither of the apps is very good at getting rid of very loud clicks. But the signature of such clicks is easy to see in the sound trace shown by Sound Editor and with the ability it has to expand the time scale, it is easy (with some practice) to cut out the 10 to 100 msec that a loud click spreads over. With care this can be done without noticeably (to my ears) affecting the music. There is an undo button, so you can restore a cut if it is not right.

Similarly I find it easier, where it proves necessary to apply noise reduction to small parts of a track, to do so in Sound Editor rather than in SoundSoap, again because Sound Editor has that flexible expandable time scale, so you can much more accurately select a section of the sound track.

But for overall noise reduction, removal of small clicks and surface crackle, turntable rumble or mains frequency hum, SoundSoap is more convenient and simpler to use.

So it's really up to you. You should be able to do everything you need to clean up audio files in Sound Editor. But I'm glad I now also have SoundSoap.

The version of EMC 9 that you have, will transfer LPs to your hard drive, then to a CD, with no problems at all.

There is no way that I would try to go directly from LP to CD. It isn't worth the hassle of the possibility of something going wrong.
