marlinsinger
If you haven't already heard, there has been a major recall on pet food. Some pets's have been made sick and died. Read the companies notices. http://www.menufoods.com/recall/ And the story. http://apnews.excite.com/article/20070317/D8NU63781.html

golinux
You should wory about more than your pets. The results of an independent feeding study released a few days ago show that Monsanto's genetically enginered corn MON 863 (which is approved, on the market and likely in your stomach) caused severe liver and kidney damage. You can read all about it including the Abstract on this page. That in addition to the massive bee die off possibly linked to GMO crops might just be the smoking guns needed to get this stuff out of the environment and our food. Hmm . . . wonder if the recalled pet food contained MON863. Something to think about . . .

Patty
I had heard that on the news and sure enough I checked the puppy can food and it was Nutro, so off to the pet store. Luckily I had not given very much to her, however, I know that is what they were feeding her before I adopted her and she is three months old. Hopefully no harm done. I couldn't find the name of the company that producted the food, just Nutro's name, that doesn't seem right somehow.

Send some of that food over here. I have 2 cats I'm willing to test it on! OK, don't call PETA on me or I may give the cats to them.

Edit - Oops, I just reread the news, it is 60 million cans. Paul, shame on you. I used to say the exact same thing. Only good cat is a ____ cat. Not any more. Got a cat about 9 years ago and have to say of all my pets that I have had over the years (all dogs), he is by far the best pet ever. The home sure would be empty without him. I'm totally harmless so don't worry bout little ole me. I don't dislike them just don't want to be bothered sometimes like last night at 2:30 (morning actually) when 1 decided it was going to kill a roach and woke everyone up to do it. When I got up in the morning, there were roach parts everywhere.

When I got up in the morning, there were roach parts everywhere. That is better than finding the live roach. My cat is an indoor cat, and as I live next to a field, I used to always get mice in the place. Record was trapping 9 in 1 year. Since I got my cat, a big zero. No mice, droppings or anything else. A couple of weeks ago, one of the neighborhood cats left some mice parts on my walk in front. Next day he came back and got the rest of it. So between my indoor cat and the outdoor neighborhood cats, I am mouse free, and happy about it.

golinux
Here's an interesting take on the recall written by a veterinarian (just ignore the look of the site - it sucks). If there is indeed a link to GE you can be sure that the USDA and FDA will sweep it under the rug like they did with the L-tryptophan supplement debacle some years ago. REDWAGON
Hey Patty, I sure hope your little puppy is O.K. I think Paul is probably right in the fact that if he weren't O.K. you would have known it by now. If you have any doubts at all, you mighht think about taking it to your local Vet to make sure everything is O.K. Cheers Frank...

Thanks, everyone, for your concern, little BG is just fine . Boy this puppy stage is time consuming. She is really pretty good, but she follows me around like a shadow and I have to watch her every minute, she wants to put everything in her mouth. She has lots of chew toys, so I haven't lost anything yet to chewing yet. How old are they before they get through this early puppy stage? Thanks again for caring. Frank, I did take her to the vet and he says she is healthy and definately a keeper. REDWAGON
Glad to hear that BG is healthy, Patty. Now that little pup is being spoiled I can tell---"Just put me in my carry-all bag and I'll be happy" Frank...

Guest ml
A year, mother! cd Then you enter the 'teenage' puppy year where they are craftier and more destructive because they're bigger. They do usually have the good sense to look guilty when caught just like teenagers.
Patty
Ok, I was hoping for a shorter time frame, but I guess I will just have to deal. She wants to be with me all the time so I am trying, slowly, to get her use to being in a crate and me out of the room, for short periods of time, like ten minutes. I have to laugh, because I don't remember all this when I had puppies before, but it has been such a long time, I guess I have forgotten. She is actually pretty good, at least she house broke really fast, that is definately a plus. I think it is just getting her use to being alone that is going to take a bit of time. Of course it has only been about three weeks or so, I am probably expecting too much. Thanks for the insight.. I guess, even though I was hoping for better. It will be worth it when it is all said and done. My granddaughter came over yesterday and that was really something, a puppy and a 8mos. old, what a combination. The puppy was a bit too excited, but the baby didn't mind.
marlinsinger
Hate to say it, but the recall was expanded again. Now for the same chemical, melamine, in rice protein. http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/070418/pet_food_recall.html?.v=4 Edit - In case it already hasn't been posted, here is a site that they keep updating with all the recalls. http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/petfood.html#recall

Patty
Thanks for the info, it certainly difficult not knowing what you might be giving your pet. This little puppy of mine seems to be ok so far and there is not rice gluten or wheat gluten in her food. Lets hope that they don't find anything else. I agree, Bruce. maybe McDonald's is safer.
