Inaccurate TIME REMAINING display

I've been running 8 for about a month and now 8.0.1. Rarely have Toasts burn estimates been accurate. If it tells me the burn should take 5 minutes it almost always takes at least 20 or more. I've lost patience with actually timing it, since it always takes way longer than estimated. The time never gets readjusted, it just counts down slowly.

I'm not sure where the problem here lies. Is it Toast, my system or the files I'm burning? I have an iMac G5 PPC 2.0 GHZ with 512MB running 10.4.8 and just recently 10.4.9. I'm just burning on the internal Superdrive, but I'm using decent media -- Verbatim 8x single-layers. Most of the files I'm burning are EyeTV exports.

(I feel like some files recorded from certain TV stations takes longer for Toast to work with. Some stuff takes longer to mulitplex than others, and those also seem to take longer to burn. I'm not sure if the varying degrees of slowness are all related or not.)

I'm most frustrated with the innaccurate time estimates. Frankly, I don't really care if a burn is going to take 15 or 20 minutes. I understand that the Superdrive is not the fastest burner out there. It just makes me wonder why Toast consistently tells me it's going to take 5 or 10 minutes when it actually takes 3 times that or longer.

Any ideas why this is happening?
