my software keeps trying to install itself

Recommended Posts

I have easy cd and dvd 6 version 6.1.1.48

When I try to open a music file, a window pops up saying it is installing this software and asks me to insert the cd. I don't remember how or when I got this software.. I do not have an installation disk.

I can only make the window go away by ending the process.

I have tried to uninstall it using remove add software, but get the error message error 1316.A and istallation error ECDC6.msi

So I can't uninstall and reinstall the software.

What do I need to do?

Go to this site to remove the program: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;290301

If you want to re-install you will need a installation disk. The version you have probably came pre-installed on your computer so you will have to contact the OEM provider.

Well, that didn't work. I tried to download the utility and got this

windows script host error:

[file path] \temp\ixp000.tmp\startmsi.vbs

activex component can't create object 'wscript.shell'

mcrosoft vb script runtime error

I use windows xp

OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer. So WinXP was installed by the source you bought the computer from.

OEM's put other software on, usually cut-down Versions without the full capabilites of the program. It would appear you willl have to contact the OEM you got the software from - Dell, Gateway, or whoever made the computer. When they contracted for the OEM Version from Roxio, they also accepted the responsibility to support it.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are telling me. My computer was custom-built for my daughter who gave it to me. I am fairly sure when I bought my dvd player, it came with the roxio disk... but I have moved since then and I am failry sure that disk is still in storage with my daughter's things in another state... so are you saying without that disk I can't uninstall the program? Or are you saying that I have to call whoever I bought the dvd player from I need to call them? I think it was staples, but as I said, it's been years.

Yes, you have to have the CD.

And this far in time from when it was new, it's not to likely the DVD manufacturer will still be giving support for it.

If some other, newer, software is interferrering with it (Internet Explorer 7 and WinPlayer 11 are likely candidates), removing the interfering software may or may not solve the problem.

Have you considered using the built in cd burning capabilities in XP, just another alternative.

Let's go back to the beginning.

You said that when you try to play a MUSIC file, you get the install message, correct?

I think that means that the music file is "associated" with the Easy CD program and you can change that.

Go to Start/ My Computer, then click on Tools at the top of the menu and select Folder Options. Now click on File Types.

Under Registered File types, the type of file will be on the left. Now toward the bottom of the screen, you'll see Details for...... and it will tell you which program will automatically be launched ( Opens with.....).

Since we don't know which file type you're trying to open ( although it'll probably be an MP....), use your down arrow key to highlight each file type.

When you get to the MP audio files, it will probably list the Roxio program. Then choose the Change tab and choose Windows Media Player.

( To repair the Easy CD program,. you can try a Windows Add Remove Programs, Change, REPAIR.)
