Title Menus - Stuck On The First One

maxy007

Question

Hi There,

I'm using Dvd creator to create my movies. I spent ages getting them right with chapters etc, waiting hours for them to encode and create an iso.

I then burn them using disc copier. Once all that's done I put the dvd in my DVD player only to find that I can't choose a title on my main menu. None of the titles are highlighted or give any indication as to which title is playing.

I've tried several different menu styles from plain text to having an animation show and no matter what I do I can't choose a menu.

I only create title menus. I don't create chapter menus.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Maxy

Have you tried playing that same disc in the computer? That will tell you if it was burned correctly. Sounds like your player doesn't like the media. What type of blank DVD are you using? DVD-R/RW or DVD+R/RW? Check the manual of your player to make sure which it will play.

I ran into this same problem. DVDs that I produced in Version 7.5 played fine, but after switching to version 8 the ones that I produced did the same thing that yours are doing. They worked fine on some other DVD players, though. I suspect that there must have been a change in the coding software between versions. You might try DVD- disks to see if they work better. I just found the problem last night, so that's what I'm going to try later. If you already found a solution, please let me know.

I am now having a similar problem with menu navigation.

I have a DVD I am trying to make that has 23 videos.

The DVD has burned but when I try to play in DVD player the navigation is all over the place.

Up and Down jump, left and right needed for up and down. (I have notice that the problen is present in DVD preview within My DVD)

This is the first time I have tried to make a DVD with more than 2 sub menus and it will not work correctly.

I have tried several different menus.

I have tried 3 different brands of DVD.

I have tried 3 different DVD players.

This is annoying as all my other DVD's have worked fine.

Now going to load 7 back on and try that.

That's the reason that I have given up on EMC8 DVD authoring. I would create menu & clip buttons, but could never get to them with the DVD player's remote control. [Either a real controller or the software controller on the PC.] The only time they worked was on the PC by running the mouse over them to light them up and then hiting "Enter".

The long-awaited update of a month or so ago did nothing to fix the problem.

I suspect that there must have been a change in the coding software between versions.

Roxio must follow the DVD standards. Personally, I have not run into this problem. Not only do my DVDs created with MyDVD 8 playback on my PC, but they also playback on four different brand of set top DVD players.

Max - if only one will play back on the PC, then something went wrong with the burn on the others. Make sure you are not using your computer for anything else during render. On some machines, it is adviseable to disconnect from the net and turn off your virus proctection. It could be trying to check for viruses while MyDVD is trying to render. Also keep your machine clear of adware and spyware, etc. It's also advised to defragment before rendering.

It's just a matter of looking at the templates and how they are numbered.

In the attached example, the MAIN MENU is vertical. So use the UP/DOWN on the remote.

The chapter menu is in two rows.

To get from Chap1 to Chap4, use the DOWN arrow.

To get from Chap2 to Chap3, use the RIGHT arrow.

If you rearrange or move the buttons from the original design, I don't think the order of the buttons will change so navigation could be confusing.

Have you tried playing the disc on other DVD players to see if it works? If it does, then I would say your DVD player just doesn't like that brand of disc. Between my mother, sisters and myself, we have 5 different DVD players and all the family DVDs that I have created with MyDVD play just fine on all of them. I buy only FUJI blank discs and make sure the UPC says 'Made is JAPAN'. I have never had a bad burn with them. Do you have any other brand of blanks to try or RW disc? Just create a project that only has about 15min video so it doesn't take so long to create the disc.
