No burner recognized

Recommended Posts

Easy CD and DVD Creator 6.1.1.7; Windows XP SP2; IE6; WMP10; MadDog MD-52XCDR

I have never used drag to disc.

I've been using ECDC for over a year without a problem, but now the program won't recognize my drives.

I have read and tried all the suggestions I could find, even system restore points to a time before I last used the program did not correct it.

Things I have done:

Updated? (the file I had was current) the drives file.

Repaired the installation. No help.

Uninstalled and reinstalled the installation. I couldn't get back to windows, but I could load with last known good configuration.

Uninstalled the program again.

Loaded Nero for immediate use. I do not install the drag to drop feature. It works fine. But I don't like Nero. and I worry that it will not be compatible with sessions created by Roxio.

Found the post with a link to the cleaner by roxio. Ran it, and reinstalled. Still couldn't get into windows normally.

Found the post about the driver update. That let me get into windows. Still no drive recognition.

Found the post about roxassist.exe. That didn't help. Even though it said things were okay.

Uninstalled again. Lost my drives. Tried your registry hack in one post. No drives. Found your exe file to fix lost drives. No drives. Found a post about a link to Doug Knox's site with a vbs file to correct the filters. It worked. I now have drives.

No drive recognition from ECDC. Tried roxassist.exe again. No drive recognition.

I just found the px engine update It didn't work either.

Any Ideas?

PS. You need an icon with someone blue in the face from trying all these things!

You have the first Basic version which was updated to 6.1.1.48 (4/04).

You did a lot of things but without a clear description we don't really know what you did.

If you open Device Manager and look at the burner's Properties, what does it have to say in there?

If you downloaded Nero you downloaded a version that is probably 3 versions newer than Roxio V6. You could have downloaded Roxio's V9 and tried that, here.

Still with the trouble you are having with XP rebooting, I think you are seeing problems that are beyond this software! A good virus & spyware scan would be in order.

<snip>

er ... OP said "Easy CD and DVD Creator 6.1.1.7".

Since 7 is higher than 48, I suspect an OEM variant, as from Dell or some other manufacturer, with probably some bits and pieces from a higher Version.

Just where did this ECD/DVDC 6 come from?

The problem with windows reloading was dealt with by Roxio's CDR4 (cdr4_xp.sys) . I found it in another post.

The Nero software was not newer, nor was it downloaded. It was from an older cdr package I bought several years ago. And it works.

In the properties box, it lists the IDE\COMROMMAD_DOG_ MD-52XCDR _____________MDCY_______________\5&14576FB3&0&0.0.0

Drivers:

All in C:\windows\system32\drivers: cdrom.sys; GEARAspiWDM.sys; imapi.sys; PXHelp20.sys; redbook.sys;

and in C:\windows\system32\storprop.dll

Yes, I did a lot of things, but all according to posts. I tried to put them in the order I did them with, however after working on it for about 10 hours, (and I didn't make notes), I can't say exactly which I did when. The order listed though, is very close to what happened.

Thanks for getting back to me to help. I really would like to resolve this.

Oh, and my virus package is up to date, and I do an extra run regularly. I also use Spybot, AdAware and SpywareBlaster and keep them up to date, and run them also about every week or two.

This was with an external Plextor Drive (PX-708VF DVD Burner) I have. I use it and my internal writer. Neither one will show up in ECDC.

From the FAQ pinned at the top of this forum:

"Updates: Currently the latest update for Platinum (English) is version 6.2.0.110, for other languages it's 6.2.0.130. For Basic and the Starter Pack the latest is 6.1.1.7"

So mine seems to fit in this category.

One thing I did forget. Toward the end. I followed the instructions in a post, and deleted my cdroms from the computer, Deleted the registry keys for the upper and lower filters, and rebooted. It was at that time that WindowsXP no longer recognized my drives. The problem was fixed with Doug Knox's script. But the drives were still unrecognized by ECDC.

Next time I'll make notes as I go along. Sorry.

With any problems you might have with these programs or for that matter any other problems, it sure makes sense to do a search on this forum for a possible solution. This forum is abundantly full of good solutions to a miriad of problems. Glad you finally got your problem solved.

My problem is not solved.

However, I definitely agree that this board provides a wealth of information and help.

Well, computers never cease to amaze me. I opened ECDC this morning (the computer was not rebooted from yesterday) and the drive shows up!

I don't know why, but thanks for all your information on this board.
