WMP 11 & EMC 7 Issue

Frank123

Question

When I open this patch, I get error message: "This patch package could not be opened...check vendor to verify its a valid windows patch"

I tried downloading it a couple of times now, still no luck. Any advice? I'm running a retail CD version of Roxio Easy DVD Copy 7 on XP Home.

I have downloaded the patch from the Roxio software update page:

http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/edvdcopy/...re_updates.html

On another topic; when I burn a DVD folder totaling 7.70 gigs / 140mins. long onto a double layer single sided DVD (8.5 gig capacity) , why is there compression? Shouldn't there be enough space on the DVD without compression? That's why I bought these expensive DL DVDs!

Thanks to all replies!

Well, that's odd...After downloading this patch about 4-5 times yesterday I downloaded it this morning and it installed right away. I guess yesterday's files were all corrupt?

More than likely - we've all seen it happen. In fact, if you still had problems you woyuld have been asked the file size to make sure.

Glad you got it sorted anyway

That's same problem I've encountered trying to update from EMC 7 CD to a more current version that has drivers for my new HP dvd940i burner. I get the message "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer Service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may :( update a differrent version of the program. Verify that the progam to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch." BTW - I'm running XP. When I try to burn a project, Roxio says No Recorder Found, even though the HP is listed in "My Computer". I've even tried using the NERO program but I don't think it's as robust as Roxio and I can't use photos already scanned into Roxio (different file extension). Can't get Roxio to reply to emails. Don't want to spend $100 for Creator 9 and find out that it doesn't support my new burner either. Need help!!!!

First of all, try a repair installation from control panel, add/remove programs and then retry the update file. It's possible that something may be corrupted.

However, you should note there are two different versions of the EMC7 update (one for the retail boxed set and another for the downloaded version)

EMC9 doesn't use a driver file for optical drives, it relies on the drive firmware reporting back to the program as to its make, the media, rated burn speed and so on, but if you want to try it free for 30 days, go here:

It is a Windows thing, losing drives when installing/un-installing burning software…

If the drives are still listed in the Device Manager, delete them then carefully follow this fix:

"Upper/Lower Filters:

a. Click on Start --> Run --> and type in 'regedit' followed by the enter key

b. Expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" key (looks like a folder) by double clicking it (or clicking the "+" next to it.)

c. Expand the "SYSTEM" Key

d. Expand the "CurrentControlSet" Key

e. Expand the "Control" Key

f. Expand the "Class" Key

g. Look for a key containing the following string of letter and numbers:

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

h. Highlight this key by left clicking once on it

i. On the right hand side you are looking for "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" under the "Name" column, once you find these delete them by right clicking on them and choosing "delete"

j. Exit the registry by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner of the screen

Reboot your computer.

Had issues with EMC 7 not recognizing my HP dvd940i burner. REad several poss and saw numerous recommendations to remove WMP 11. Iremoved WMP 11 & let it roll back to v. 10 -EMC 7 now works GREAT with my new burner!!! I've wasted nearly 3 weeks, numerous calls to HP & nearly 10 hours of On-line Chat Tech Support from my PC manufacturer to onlyfind out it was a simple program deletion. Thanks to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

There are TWO updates on this url - one for 7.5 and one for 7.0, as well as one for the ESD vwersion

http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=18386

Are you certain you got the correct one? (it's the second one down)

The compression on the d/l? If it's video, it's nothing to do with the size of the file but the duration - anything over about 1 hour 50 will compress on a d/l DVD (1 hour on single layer)
