Why some .vob files import and others don't

hashysh13

Question

I'm having a problem with importing some of my .vob files, and am unsure why. With some .vob(videoTS) files, when I push the "Add Files" button, I instantly get the window with the selection boxes, which I click, then I push OK and the file imports. With others, I push the "Add Files" button, and nothing happens. Any idea why this is happening? So far I have only 4 files where this is an issue. I want to burn these files to disc, but it just ain't happening. Any suggestions? Keeping in mind that I know basically nothing about these things. Thanks alot.

I do believe that was his intent. Brownies, anyone?

No intent, just a name I use that reflects my interests in a certain passtime.

I'm still having this trouble, can't believe it hasn't happened to anyone but me. Just got another file downloaded, after many hours, wanna watch it on my teevee, and presto, it won't import to the Sonic MyDVD!!! Starting to get real annoying. Also, please tell me exactly what to do to rename the files from VIDEO_TS(.vob) to mpg? Where do I go to make sure Windows will recognize the file extension when renaming? Tried just right-click and rename, but like someone said, just renamed the .vob file, didn't change the file from one to the other.

Please help, I'm not too smart about things that have to do with computers. Thanks alot.

You have to get rid of the .vob and replace it with .mpg. To do so, you have to show file extensions.

Go to My Computer/Tools/Folder Options, click on View, scroll down to Hidden Files and folders, and click in the circle to the left of Show hidden files and folders.

While you are there, uncheck the box "Hide extensions for known file types". Click on Apply, then Ok.

Note: Hidden folders was added, because you will eventually have to find a folder that is hidden. :)

Try coping the files to a new folder. That way if something goes wrong you have the original.

In the new folder, go to tools, folder options, view (tab), uncheck hide extensions for known file types. Right click the large vobs and change to ( 1.mpg 2.mpg 3.mpg so on) The dot or period is a must, like the pic below!

Some have had luck renaming the vob files to .mpg. Give it a try and see if it works.

ok thanks. I've run into another problem. I just tried to import another videoTS file, and I get this error message: runtime error:tc_flag out of range -3

Any chance you could help me out with this one too? Man, I'm one incompetent MF. Also, do you mean just change the file extension from .vob to .mpg by renaming it? As in right click, rename? Just wondering, again, not too in the know about these things. Thanks alot.

Never seen this error message before and I'm not sure what it means. Sorry, but I have no idea what to suggest.

Yes, you should be able to just right click and choose rename, then change the extension from .vob to .mpg.

Just make sure you have windows set to display known file extensions or you'll end up naming them (Name).mpg.vob.
