wont encode

mondschain

Question

Hi everyone,

I installed roxio deluxe 9 yesterday and like the DVD Menus. So I worked on a video in video wave finalized it and saved it. Then opend MyDVD and chose a Menu and added my edited video. Now when i want to burn it to an iso file or to files or to DVD nothing works it just freezes. So I tried it a couple of times but it just freezes. So I tried to add just video unedited video, that MyDVD encodes. So I thought maybe I could go back to video wafe and convert my edited video into a video file mpeg-2 or so but that wont work either. Now what to do?

I'm having the very same problem that you are having. Been trying for 2 weeks now to get this project to work. When I burn my freshly caputred video from my camcorder everything burns fine though MyDVD, but when I edit the video in VideoWave9 and then try to burn through MyDVD it stops at different points in the movie.

I've tried new video card drivers, ensuring DirectX 9c is installed and defraging the ahrd drive. Still can't get it to burn my VideoWave production. Been reading these board for the last two days looking for a solution.. Kinda frustrating.

What happens when you try to convert it in VideoWave? And what OS are you running?

Not sure what PCIES means. You say it is a Compaq Presario. What model number? I take it it is a desktop? I had a quick look at the Presario range of dedsktops, but the ones I've found only mention 3 free PCI slots or some (now discontinued) models do have a PCI express 16x slot (which a PCI Express card would fit into). If that is what PCIES mwans then that would be the slot to use.

PCI graphics cards would certainly work in one of the PCI slots.

There are both ATI chipset based and nVidea PCI cards with 256MB. Make sure they are also DirectX9 compatible. The other thing to check is that the power supply in your PC can deliver what the card needs (not generally a problem with low to mid price range cards).

Google for 'PCI graphics 256MB'

Just one (US) example:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1130987962366

but you'll find lots more over a wide price range, depending on where you live.

i had the same problem with the encoding...it would just stay at 0%. i updated my driver and it worked great for a few weeks. then when trying to burn a finished project in mydvd i got an error message. i can't remember what it said, when i try now the error box just barely flashes on the screen so you can't read the message. then the burn window pops up and when i hit burn it won't encode...just stays at 0% again. seem to have the same computer as mondschain with the exception of the hard drive. thanks in advance for any advice :)

nvidia geforce 6150le

amd athlon 64 3800+

1gb ram

200gb hd

Use software encoding. In MyDVD, go to the top menu and select Tools>Options and put the dot by software. If you don't edit, then you are probably getting smart encoding (none). As soon as you do any editing, the program has to encode those areas where you did the edit. In hardware mode, your computer can't keep up.

When you go to burn, select create iso file and deselect the other options. Your computer has to do only one thing - encode- rather than to encode and burn at the same time. Alter the project is encoded, just use Disc Copier to preview the iso file and then copy it to a DVD.

What are your computer specs? Put your computer specs in your signature so you won't be asked that again and again.

You probably want to make sure you are encoding in the software mode. Open VideoWave and go to the top menu. Select tools, options and put a dot next to software. Try encoding to an mpg2 for DVD best quality again.

With that video chip, you cannot encode in the hardware mode. Software will be slower and you will lose 3D transitions and a few others. But at least you will be able to get these project done.

sorry my mistake its PCIEX and I will check out the local Best Buy ..... i went to Hp.com and got my motherboard layout so I know exactly what to look for. I did some research most of the 256 MB video cards dont support dircetx9 which is strange....

I want to thank you all for your help

My specs are now in my Sig.. figured that one out after I posted. I have tried the software rendering and it still pauses at the the same points in the movie. Only takes longer to get to that point since software is slower. I'll try just writing out an ISO file and see if that works.

Edit: Tried the writing to the ISO file only and it still stopps at the same point in the movie. It's kinda wierd its almost like there is a problem with the capture of the video from the camera since this is the second capture I've done and this one is stopping at a different point in the movie that the first one did. Maybe I'm not caputring things right?

Your problem is almost certainly your graphics. The 6150le is an onboard integrated graphics set (probably using shared memory).

Your best bet would be to get a dedicated video card (256 MB ones are reasonably cheap these days and you don't need a high end one, just one that can support DirectX 9 fully)

You could try using software rendering as that graphics certainly won't be able to handle hardware

Well you just kind of answered my next question. I tried the suggestions given updating the driver didnt work so i tried using software rendering still nothing. Now I was going to ask about what kind of video card I should look for.

So 256MB would be good enough... would roxio's preformance get any better with 512MB ? Mostly there is just a few dollars difference and maybe the video card would last a little longer for future programs. :)

I have a similar problem but apparently not quite the same.

I can burn a MYDVD project that contains video only (no menu/markers/chapters). I burn the image file with MYDVD then use disk copier to make the DVD from the image file.

When I add a menu with chapters, what I get when I try to burn (image file or folders) is that the encoding appears to work great until the movie is done, then when it reports that it is encoding the menu MYDVD stops responding.

The iso file appears completed in Windows Explorer, and the size is greater than the movie only, indicating that some of the menu got encoded. But the iso file must not be closed or something because the Roxio software doesn't recognize it and so I can't view it or turn it into a DVD.

I am using Win XP ME SP2

You were lucky to have that chip work, although there have been others who have had it work. Did you update your video drivers?

i will search if there is a new driver.... I was planning to get a laptop somewhere in the future would this program work at all? Because Notebooks are usually slower in everything... It just would be nice if I could take the computer wherever my kids are they wont let me sit on the computer much and all this takes so long :(

thank you guys for you suggestions .... I was very upset yesterday with the program so I uninstalled it. I will reinstall it and try all those steps .... just installed what I believe was the latest driver for my video card... hopefully its the latest one ( I just got the computer so I am not sure if it doesnt already have the latest one). I will let you know when I am done experimenting. :)

I doubt if the 512 MB would make a terrible difference. Conceivably there would be some gains, but my system works well with 256 MB (but I ain't into the really fast and furious shoot-em-up games)

I dont play video games... with two little kids really have no time for it....

there are so many different things out there when it comes to video cards.... I dont even know what to look for .... my head smokes... and the constant upgrading of some computer parts makes my husband so happy :)

By "freezes", I'm guessing you mean it sits at 0% progress. That can be corrected by installing the latest video drivers. That video chip should be an Nvidia one, so you can get the drivers at their site. Make sure you follow the installation instructions carefully.

I posted this some time ago. My brother was over to visit he figured out that I downloaded the wrong grafic card driver..... the one I downloaded was for win XP but the one I needed was for win XP media center edition.... never thought of that... i feel so stupid some times...

but it helped resolve most of my encoding problems..... so just wanted to share incase someone still had the same problem.
