Compatibility with EZ Creator 5 Platinum?

Jacksteroo

Question

I just purchased a low-priced version of EZ Creator 8.2 XE. I un-installed the EZ Creator 5.0 Platinum (the premium version) before installing. Altho I need the newer product to perform the task of copying some DVD's, I miss all the options in the 5.0 program. Would I be able to re-install my 5.0 Platinum and not run into any conflicting problems between the two programs? I plan to use either one or the other from time to time.

Probably can have both with the exception of Drag to Disc and DirectCD. You can only have one of those "packet writers" installed. Keep in mind, the 8.2 XE version is a stripped down basic one that was only shipped with drives (or other hardware) purchases, it's not a retail version.

Thanks for the tip, Larry. How then, would I go about re-installing the 5.0 Platinum keeping those "packet writers" from installing twice? Or should I try to eliminate it from the 8.2 version first?

You could also try a custom install from 5 and deselect D2D - if it doesn't go in, there's no clash

What I think you mean by "D2D", is Drag to Disk. Is there another word for it that the program uses? There is nothing on the "don't install" list that mentions D2D.

Uninstall D2D from 8.2 (use add/remove programs and the 'repair' option'). Then try re-installing 5 on a custom install and uncheck the packet writing end of it

I did what you mentioned, clicking on the "repair" option. After I followed all instructions, all the Wizard did was re-install the program and instructed me to exit the Wizard. There was no option presented to change anything.

In version 5 that would be DirectCD I believe.

I used "System Restore" to take my computer back to just after I un-installed the 5. Then, I installed 5 in the "Custom" mode, and chose to not install Direct CD. Then I ran the install. 5 ran very well as it had done before, with of course, the Direct CD unavailable. Then, I installed the 8.2 complete. The 5 still works as it should. I haven't tried the 8.2 yet, but thanks for your advice. It appears to have solved this frustrating glitch.
