EMC9 mpeg cause WMP 11 error C00D11B1

Semi-Retarded

Question

I am getting error code C00D11B1 when trying to play home videos with Windows media Player 11 that I recorded with EMC 9.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...inalid=C00D132B

The video properties show in WMP 11 as "This file is missing media usage rights". I can play the mpegs fine on XP PC's on our home network, so I assume this is a Vista problem. Another clue is that they played with WMP 11 after I captured them from VHS with EMC 9 and suddenly stopped playing. I tried making copies using EMC 9 and the new copy has the same property and problem. If I copy the file using Windows Movie Maker, the copy will play with WMP 11- but not the quality I need. It seems to me that Roxio should allow media rights for users home videos. Any suggestions appreciated.

It's actually Microsoft who are denying the media rights and not Roxio. However, I looked at the link you gave and it does say a few other things that may be relevant

"...Your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller, requires an updated driver. To determine if an updated driver is available, see Windows Update at the Microsoft Web site, or see the sound device manufacturer's Web site.

Your sound device is not functioning properly. Try using Device Manager to check the status of your sound device.

You are trying to play an MP3 file that contains compressed ID3 headers. The ID3 header is a portion of the file that stores the song's album information (for example, the song name, artist name, album name, and genre). This information is sometimes called a "tag."..."

Sorry, this is crap.

I've tried putting my EMC9 onto three different Vista (Business and Ultimate) installations on two different computers. Each time it breaks my ability to play mpg files with WMP11 that did work and I have recorded with various applications (EMC and GBPVR) and off sometimes off the web. I think it is changing the Microsoft codecs and nothing I do short of wiping Vista will get this to work. Reinstall EMC9 and it's broke again.

Oh, and I'm not using CiniMagic instead. It is tooooo slooooow.

My next Vista load will include another DVD creation application unless Roxio or Microsoft fix this or can point me to a tool to fix it.

Since I'm both a long time user and a current tester for the next version of GBPVR, I'm curious about what you posted. I've got 2 systems running Vista Ultimate and GBPVR on both as well as WMP11 and though I use the exact same capture settings in GBPVR on both systems (and the exact same tuner--see signature) I've not seen the problems with mpg files you mention. Would you mind posting some system specs for me?

Also, while the next GBPVR version is still a ways out, the current version works well for me too. However, have you posted this on the GBPVR forum for help? While it appears there are not lots using Vista yet, there are some very knowledgeable people there and sub (creator of GBPVR) is a great guy who I think would like to know about these problems.

You might like to know the outcome of my original post on this thread. I still get the error code C00D11B1 for the MPG files created by EMC9. The only way I could convert was to go back and spend days capturing them again as WMV files. It is ridiculous that a person's own home movies of their kids fall prey to media usage rights. It is also sad that this forum wasn't more help to a user with a pure vanilla Dell system with Vista home premium.

I have Vista and EMC9 installed and this is what I found.I have some video captured by a Dazzle video device. If I go into WMP and try and play the files they work just fine.If I try and open the same file in Windows Media Center in Vista then I get a message that it can't play the video and one or more codecs is missing. Why this is I'm not sure but I can play the videos just fine in WMP with EMC9 installed so I'm not sure that's the problem.

When you try and play them with WMP do you get a "codec acquired" prompt in the bottom left corner of WMP?If not check to make sure in the options that auto downloading of codecs is enabled.

I did try the auto downloading of codecs and many more attempts I listed earlier in this thread. My problem was simply missing media rights when capturing VHS tapes to MPG format using EMC9. The MPG files are still unplayable under Vista WMP and MCE. Thanks for the tip which may help others with codec problems.

Thank you for the comments. I should have said that I exhausted all the advice at the Microsoft link and spent hours on the phone with Dell updating drivers and backing out Vista updates. It is not the drivers since the sound works for everything else and I can play the files with Roxio, Winamp, Nero, etc. It is not an MP3 ID3 header because the fault is with mpeg files, not MP3. All MP3's play just fine. Are there headers for mpeg files that can be changed with a Tag Editor? In case you ask, I also installed every Vista Codec with the Vista Codec Pacakage. I must disagree with your comment about Roxio not being responsible. It's like saying the IRS is at fault when you don't pay your taxes. Roxio software should write acceptable Media Rights when capturing home videos. Thanks again.

It's honestly nothing to do with Roxio - MS got into bed with the recording studios and trumpeted that Vista was going to have far tighter DRM - THAT's where the problem lies.

If the OS is 'protecting' the studio accountants, no app will be able to break that (short of a bit of judicious tweaking on the OS but then you're breaching the EULA)

And, your analogy is strange, to say the least.

Maybe give GSpot a try at looking at these codecs. It might be interesting to see what it says you need (or don't need) and what your system has trouble with. This is DRM sticking it's head out again, I'm pretty sure about that.

Got mine to work in both WMP and Media Center.Try this, open WMP,Tools,Options,DVD tab.Hit the Advanced button.Make sure you have codecs highlighted. Now look down the list and see if MPEG shows a codec or says disabled.Mine said disabled.I enabled it using libmpeg2 and Voila! it worked.

Good detective work! I installed the Nvidia codec (another story, another time) so when I do what you did, I don't get any choices that you do in WMP except Nvidia choices and they all deal with sound. I'm going to play around a bit more but since I don't have the problems you and others have, don't really need to fool with it any.

Thanks for sharing your fix.

First, I am only guessing that the issue relates to DRM when mentioning the symptom about the file properties. Second, I am unprepared to debate the topic and am only concerned with my own home videos, not third party content. Finally, I'd appreciate any advice on getting the Roxio software to capture my home videos for playback on WMP 11. Thank you.

Hi:

I am researching a very similar problem. I also get the C00D11B1 error.

I created an MPEG file from Videowave in ECD 9. It does not run on my Vista system (where it was created). It does run on my XP system. When I run it in WMP 11 on the Vista system I get the C00D11B1 error.

I have been assuming this was a problem with the Creative X-Fi Xtreme audio card. I have been very frustrated trying to solve this with Creative. Today I removed the sound card, went back to the on motherboard sound. I was surprised to find that the error still existed. So now I am looking around the Roxio site for a solution having found this thread.

I did just try the suggestion of going to the DVD tab in WMP 11 options. While I found the advanced tab, I could not find codecs to highlight. Actually I clicked on use other driver (or something like that) and now when I click on the advanced tab I get the Sonic MP4 Demultiplexer. To go back to what I had before which was some kind of AC3 driver/codec I just need to go to WMplugins.com. Do I need to do this? There is also a Roxio Cineplayer DVD plug in there for $14.99.

Please help to get the MPEG's working in Vista!

Thanks,

KiT-

Try this (from the mcse forum)

"After a lot of searching on the net i have managed to find a solution to this

annoying error code C00D11B1 For those that have downloaded the wmp 11

update to find wmp does not work ,depending on what sound card you are using

,mine is realtech high def audio .

You need to open control panel , click on sound, in the playback menu click

your device that is showing in my case realtech high def which will

highlight properties, click on properties which intern will show three

headings , General, Levels, Advanced. click advanced and last of all click

restore defaults which will fix the player

Im guessing that this solution could possibly help other users with this

code prob good luck to you if it does"

Thanks and Wow that was a fast reply!

I tried your solution. The "Restore defaults" link was grayed out. When I changed the audio quality in the drop list the button would become available, thus I clicked on it then just to be sure. No luck.

Any other ideas?

Thanks again,

KiT

Thanks. My solution appears to have been an upgrade to Roxio ECD-10.
