Exporting from Adobe Premiere Pro

mhk

Question

Please help. What is the best way to export HD video from Adobe premiere pro for use in DVDit pro HD? The only one that seems to work is using media encoder HDV 1080i which produces an mts file. I then have to change the file extension to mpg for in order to pull it into DVDit. Then the program has to transcode it when writing a disc. I don't want to have to transcode twice. Also, the program hangs frequently when moving through the video and occasionally locks up.

Removing one frame of audio didn't help. However, I exported independent audio and video streams from premiere and have been able to burn a disc image. I'll put that on a disc tonight and see how it looks. Thanks so much for all your help. Definitely wouldn't have been able to figure this one out on my own.

ok, so unfortunately EOF is an error we have not yet fully tracked down. Plee was kind enough to send in some files that show this error. We have now replicated it in house, but now fix yet...seems to happen much more with Program Streams (mixed video and audio) than with Elementary Streams (separate M2V and AC3). Which are you using? are you using CBR or VBR. Is audio the same length as video (zoom way in and check).

Here's a thought. Try to export with AC3 audio instead of WAV and see what happens. Maybe the transcoding of PCM and the passthrough of the MPEG video is causing the issue.

FYI - There is an extensive posting on the Encore forum about this same issue here:

The post I find most compelling is the one that says to shorten audio so that it is one frame shorter than video. My inclination would be to do that before you bring the timeline into DVDit Pro HD. Shorten your audio a frame (or a few frames) in Premiere and then export your timeline...

As Scott mentioned, unfortunately it's a known bug :(

Are you creating a .mpg file? If you are, try creating using elementary streams or demux the .mpg file before importing into DVDit sometimes this will work.

I am exporting from Premiere as a single mpg file with audio and video. The video was VBR, and the audio MPEG 1. However, the funny thing is that if I export a test file that lasts only 25 seconds under the exact same specifications it works fine with no EOF error. I just exported a file last night as CBR with the audio 1-2 frames shorter than the video. It imports into DVDit fine, but I haven't had a chance to try to burn a disc image. Thanks for all your help so far.

still having a little trouble. Evenwhen I use the recommended compression i get jerky picture and audio when working in DVDit pro HD. I'm afraid to burn a disc with the fear that this jerkiness may be in the end product too.

There should be a MPEG2 preset "1080i60VBR" that will work. I changed the mbps to 20k with a 10k min and 23k max and DVDit seems to be fine with it. Check this thread also...

use BD-RE. you can always reuse it if you don't like the result. Also, preview and burn are now WYSIWYG. If you are feeding DVDit Pro HD legal streams and the application does not transcode those streams when it burns a disc, the streams will look exactly as they did when encoded by Premiere.

Your playback maybe by hendered by your CPU as HD streams take alot of power. As Scott has suggested use a BD-RE to see how the playback will be or a DVD if your clip is small.

There doesn't seem to be a consistant pattern to the cause of the EOF problem, but I do find elementary streams more stable (EOF doesn't seem to appear) so I would recommend doing it that way...

I have found the following works well and also solves the jerky playback on PowerDVD Ultra as well as EOF error.

I export from Prem Pro 2 timeline as mpg2 vbr 2pass and over on the left side select deinterlaced. I used the preset with 15 Mbps as target (I'll try the 20 Mbps on next project) -- export the video only. -- then export the audio only. Bring them both into DVDit HD as media files (you can use add movie, then right clik in the media and import the audio. Drag audio to the icon on left for the movie, it will add the little speaker symbol in the bottom left corner and make that little twinkle sound.

Deinterlaced solved my jerky playback in two different players -- VLC and PowerDVD Ultra.

Exporting the 1 hour 5 min video as two files (video file and separate audio file) solved my problem with EOF.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

I dont normally transcode and burn in premiere. I export my hd file as uncompressed mov with square pix at 1280x720 or higher with no fields (progressive). (I clearly dont have a shortage of hard drive space). This file I then take to Burning software and do the menu and transcode all at once. Simply exporting a file from premiere is lightyears faster than transcoding to DVD, you may miss the next Haleys comet waiting for that! (If you are using Adobe prem 2, u can burn the dvd, menu everything from the programme itself now.) I have never had much joy with Adobe media encoders or the earlier 'Pro' series so called DVD capabilities. There is other software that compresses and authors much better and faster.

I am looking at the DVDit range with a watery mouth, how do u find working out 4 u? (besides the Adobe Prem mission)

Is it possible to acces the native, or raw button files (in My DVD 7 they are Photoshop files) and then edit them to create your own borders for buttons etc?

Cheers

No problem, definitely a weird bug to fix/re-create/work around. :D

okay. I've got the file imported, made chapters, etc. It only transcodes the audio, which means the video is compliant. Every time I try to burn an image, I get an EOF error 10003. What am I doing wrong now????
