1. Spotlight should have no trouble locating 'Roxio Converted Items'. If it isn't found, check the Spotlight Prefs>Privacy list to see if that name isn't excluded from searches.

2. The default location is /Users/username/Documents/Roxio Converted Items

but you can change it in Preferences.

I don't know how it got there, but it was on the Privacy list. Thanks.

You use the Media Browser for this. Insert the source DVD, choose DVD with the top button in the Media Browser. The lower button takes you to the titles or chapter level of the DVD. Select the titles or chapters you want and add them to the Video window (with DVD video selected as the format).

Toast extracts the video as MPEG files and writes them to the Converted Items folder. It uses those extracted files as the source for creating the new DVD. No re-encoding occurs so the quality is identical to the original.

You have told tsantee how to make another dvd but, as far as I can see, not how to save his/her original dvd to his/her hard drive. I would also like to know the best way to do this. Do you mean that the MPEG files in the Converted Items folder (which I am unable to find; where is it, please?) can in the future be used to make another dvd? Is another way of doing what tsantee wants to do to use "Save as Disc Image"?

Thanks for help.

One doesn't need to rip a non-encrypted video DVD to put it on their hard drive. Just drag the VIDEO_TS folder to where you want it saved. Alternatively one can use the Toast Copy window and choose Save as Disc Image. When mounted the disc image can be played with DVD Player.

Mikela wanted to be able to play the videos with QuickTime. This requires the MPEGs be extracted from the DVD using the steps in my first post and that Mikela purchase Apple's QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component. Otherwise the video would need to be exported to another format such as .h264. This is done by extracting the MPEGs from the video DVD, selecting them in the Toast window and clicking export. This is how a video DVD title can be converted to one that plays in iPods or AppleTV.
