Emc 7 / 7.5 - Install / Uninstall / Update

cliving2

Question

I have two retail versions of Roxio: EMC 7 and EMC 8 that have been registered with Roxio. I installed EMC 8.0. I didn't like it so I uninstalled it. I eventually had to uninstall EMC 7 and then EMC 8.

When I tried to reinstall EMC 7, I get an error message: "Unable to find a certificate file."

I reported the problem with Tech Support and followed their two recommendations:

Recommendation #1 (2/4/06)

Uninstall any Roxio or Adaptec software

Run the RoxiZap application

Result: error message appears

Recommendation #2 (2/6/06)

Run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility

Delete the following:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Roxio

HKEY_LOCAL_NMACHINE\Software\Roxio

Run the RoxiZap application two times

Reinstall after disabling the startup applications

Result: Each time I boot up the PC and try to access an application, the "Windows Installer" pop-up

window appears with the error message.

I simply wanted to re-install my retail version of EMC 7. I like it much. I'd appreciate your help.

I'm have very similar issues. None of by Optical drives show up and it keeps giving me the same errors you are getting. It won't even read any optical disks anymore, even in Safe Mode. It says the drivers are currupt. I tried to restore to an earlier date, but it did not work. What an invasive product, reminds me of the Sony Root-kit. I think it has to do with that Drag to Disk Crap. I accidently installed this crap software on my PC when I got my Lacie DVD Burner, and it screwed it all up and now I can't get it off no matter what I do. I even tried to copy the installer files onto a hard disk to try to install it again so that I could remove it, but it keeps saying missing keys, fatal errors, etc. I've used Toast on my Mac for years but this software is complete and total crap. Please help us to TOTALLY REMOVE THIS SOFTWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL! Settle down and download the MS Cleanup Utility, and run it. Reboot, and reinstall the software again, and I would bet you don't have a problem.

BTW, you obviously have no idea what the Sony Root-kit does, or you wouldn't be comparing it with this software.

Whoo Hoo! That worked, well sort of. My computer blue screened on start up, but hasn't since. Actually I am quite aware of what the Sony Root kit is, and I was only saying that is "reminded" me of it. Software that has that much hooks into the OS and requires another parties software to remove it completely is pretty annoying. I respect Roxio as a company, I love Toast on my Mac, but I think I'm going to stick with Nero on my PC. I appologize for my whinny tone, I just have never had much luck with that software and I was pretty frustrated last night when my machine failed to recognize optical media anymore and I had to track it down to this software. Especially that Drag-to-Disk feature, which I would never use becuase it is a startup item that sits in the background at all times chewing on precious system resources. Some other people I know have also had problems with Drag-to-Disk. Maybe version 8 is better, I don't know, but they have already lost me. Thanks for your help though, I appreciate it.

You are welcome. Did you try to reload the software? I never load Drag to Disc, or any other packet writing software like Nero's InCD or Sonic's DLA. BTW, you can't have more than one packet writing software loaded on the same computer. It will cause conflicts with both softwares.

Sometimes you have to run RoxiZAp a few times (between Reboots) to remove everything. Before runing Roxiozap I would run the windows clean up utility first.

I have successfully installed EMC 7 and the patch.

However, I am unable to copy a DVD I made that contains a slideshow created in EMC 7. The following errors appear:

Microsoft Visual C++ runtime Library

Runtime Error \

Program: ...s\Roxio\Easy Mediator Creator 7\Disc Copier\DiscCopier7.exe

The application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way

Please contact the application's support team for more information

Microsoft Visual C++ runtime Library

Runtime Error \

Program: ...s\Roxio\Easy Mediator Creator 7\Disc Copier\DiscCopier7.exe

R6025

pure virtual function call

I'd appreciat any suggestions for fixing this problem.

Thank you.

Thanks for the suggestion but it didn't work. Because the registry was messed up, I had to performa a PC restore of the operating system. When I attempted to re-install MEC 7, an error messge appeared: "The CD key that you entered is not valid. Please re-enter your CD key and try again."

It's a valid CD key. I don't know what to do next.
