I had quite a time with Roxio 6

Recommended Posts

Creator classic would not open anymore, so, I tried everything I could think of to fix it.

I ran RoxioZap, and reinstalled Roxio EZCD creator. I was greeted with bluescreen about cdr4_xp.sys

Driver_unloaded_without_cancelling_pending_operations

I used Google for solutions, but got blue-screened whenever Roxio was installed. (I had to go into safemode, rename cdr4_xp.sys to cdr4_xp.old.

Rebooted, and in normal mode, uninstalled Roxio, then renamed the drive back to cdr4_xp.sys.

Tried again reinstalled Roxio, then tried installing updatecdr4_53_71.exe before rebooting.

Then my CD drive had a code 37. and could not re-enable.

This is what worked for me, FINALLY!!!!

After installing Roxio EZCD creator 6, do not reboot until updatecdr4_53_71.exe is installed.

After reboot, if CD drive is missing in My Computer, do the following:

Back up your registry before using the registry editor

Step 1: Start Registry Editor

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. Registry Editor starts.

Step 2: Delete the UpperFilters registry entry

1. In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

2. Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.

3. Expand Control, and then expand Class.

4. Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.

5. In the right pane (topic area), click UpperFilters.

Note An UpperFilters.bak registry entry may also appear. To delete the UpperFilters registry entry, you must click UpperFilters and not UpperFilters.bak.

6. On the Edit menu, click Delete.

7. When you receive the following message, click Yes to confirm the deletion of the UpperFilters registry entry:

Are you sure you want to delete this value?

The UpperFilters registry entry is removed from the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} registry subkey.

Note Do not exit Registry Editor. You must have this program for the next step.

Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry

5. In the right pane (topic area), click LowerFilters.

Note An LowerFilters.bak registry entry may also appear. To delete the LowerFilters registry entry, you must click LowerFilters and not LowerFilters.bak.

6. On the Edit menu, click Delete.

7. When you receive the following message, click Yes to confirm the deletion of the LowerFilters registry entry:

Are you sure you want to delete this value?

The LowerFilters registry entry is removed from the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} registry subkey.

8. Exit Registry Editor.

Step 4: Restart the computer

If a CD recording program no longer works after you restart the computer, you must reinstall the CD recording program.

Now it all works!!! BTW, I am msil217, I joined Roxio's site in 2002. Seemed to have lost my password. But since I no longer have aol, sending me the password would not help.

Point I'm sure you meant to add -

Make a backup of the registry FIRST, then do the rest.

Roxio's Forums were moved at the beginning of 2006, which is why you had to re-register (we all did). There have also been intermittant problems - which is why these days I have to sign in via FireFox on one of my comptuers.

Thanks, I added the quote in bold letters to back up your registry (I didn't think of that, because I am used to having Go-Back, another Roxio product. This was before Symantec bought it.)

I could have came here with my problems, but I wanted to see if I could find the solution myself. I am glad to have my Roxio back, the other free programs weren't as good. I don't do any video, so 6 is good enough (besides, I use Windows Movie Maker with add-ons for movies)

And my Roxio 6 is not updated.(it is right out of the box) Updates cause the BLACK SCREEN on each reboot. I am not about to uninstall GoBack to see if that helps, because if it don't work, I'd have to reinstall Windows. Safe mode does not work either when the updates are applied.

I found that after doing the above, later on, my CD drive would not read CD's, whether Audio, or data.

I did what I could, but I ended up uninstalling Roxio to get my CD drive to read CD's again.

Also, I tried Roxio 9 (trial) , and it seemed to work, but no-one would answer my questions about it on the forum, it seems my post was deleted?? So, I ended up doing a fresh install of Windows, Roxio 6 works, and I saved myself $$$$.

9 did not impress me enough to want to buy it. I'll stick with 6, as long as it works. Maybe, when I buy another computer with a DVD drive........

Do you mean this one -

http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?...mp;#entry110224

If you didn't origijally put it in Roxio Community > Easy Media Creator Products > Easy Media Creator 9 > Installation/Uninstallation/Update, someone moved it and didn't bother to tell you :(

Thanks for finding it. I may have posted it there, but could not find it for some reason after I left the forum.

I tried my profile, but it would not show me links to all my posts, like some forums do.

That's probably a good idea.

Version 9 requires more computer resources and if version 6 works on your computer, you'd be better off waiting until you buy a newer computer that exceeds the program specifications.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your tips. Adding Roxio DVD studio killed my CD Creator Software. I unstalled, that killed XP, went through the bit of renaming cdr4_xp.sys and all that, that killed my cd drive.

Arg. I used to like computers.

If it weren't for your tips my laptop would likely be decoration at the bottom a pond by now. Thanks!!!!!
