Updated From 6.0 To 6.1.1 And Now Asks For A Cd Key

Question

I just downloaded and installed an update of Toast 6.0 to 6.1.1. Now when I try to open Toast, it asks for a CD key. I got the mac g4 new 12 months ago with toast 6 installed. I do not have a cd key. When following the instructions for the update, I overwrote the Toast 6.0 program file. Now I can not use the program at all without a CD Key.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Whenever I update Toast it takes me through the setup, but the registration is remembered from the earlier version.

Technically it sounds like you haven't purchased or been given a license for Toast. If you bought a Mac with Toast already installed the seller is required by the license to provide you the install disc and registration number. Otherwise you were obligated to delete the application. I'm not trying to lecture you; I'm just passing along my understanding of the license terms.

But this may not be such a bad thing if it motivates you to buy the much-better Toast 7 for your Mac (presuming you're running 10.3.9 or later).

The software was installed and working on the system when I bought it. Since this was my first Mac purchase I have never even heard of Toast. There wasn't a Toast CD in the box and the registration was not remembered from the previous install. It could be on the Mac CD that came with the system. That CD is in storage right now in another city so I guess I will either have to upgrade to 7 or wait until I have the Mac CD in hand.

Thanks

There are no new Macs that come bundled with Toast.

There are 3 legitimate ways you can get Toast:

1) Buy a boxed or downloadable copy

2) Buy a CD or DVD burner that comes with a bundled version of Toast

3) Buy a used Mac that comes with Toast

However, in all 3 cases, you will need a valid CD key in order to install the software. Updates will never prompt you for a CD key unless you are using a pirated copy.

Casinokid - the version installed on your Mac is pirated.
