Unable to Reinstall EMC 9

DickT

Question

I was having problems with burning CD's with the rendering process skipping frames in a slide show and recording only a blank. I thought I would try uninstalling and reinstalling. The program will not reinstall. Following Microsoft guide it looks like the RCP_easyarchive_33\bin\mrating.exe file is missing from the CD or will not activate. I have submitted a help ticket number 342756 to technical services on 3/19 and have never received a reply. Can anyone help.

Hi DickT

Here are a few tools to help users that have maybe a bit of an issue doing alot of file removal or editing to there system.

(please note the script file and reg file are to be only used if you don't have ANY other Roxio products on your system and you don't want to keep them , as this removes all ROXIO application files and registry items)

Step 1. Download the Microsoft installer cleanup tool from here

http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9...1bd/msicuu2.exe

then run it and remove these programs

then reboot the system and go on to step two.

Step 2. file is a script i made, and it stops all the system services first (Roxio services running) then it removes all the file and folder entry's .

File_remove.zip

(please note , unzip to to a folder on the main boot drive, then run by double clicking on the File remove.cmd file and let it run, it will close after files have been removed , now run the second file, roxio.reg and it will remove the main Roxio registry key from your system.)

Thats it, clean system ready to run a new fresh install again.

(please note these scripts are not made by Roxio or supported by them, and i have made sure that they are virus free, but as always USE ANY APPS AT OWN RISK)

Hope this helps

Hi Highlander,

Tried everything you suggested. Still getting the same error message. The error message is MRating MFC application has encountered a problem and need to close. When I click on more details I get: Event Type inpageerror P1:000009c P2:00000005, and on details to be included in the report to Microsoft I get: C:\docum~1\admin~1\loacals~1\temp\wer37c9diroo\mrating.exe.mdmp and the second line shows: same directory locaton string and wer37c9dir00\appcompat.txt. Very frustrated at the moment especially since I have had no reply back from technical support.

Hi Dick

it very much sounds like you have a major infection of a mallis spyware and mainly this one

Adware.Win32.Ditto Toolbar, it is a hard sucker to get rid of to so try the following below.

Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

save it to your desktop.

Run Killbox.exe. Paste the following location into Killbox.

C:\WINNT\system32\msrating.exe

Checkmark the box that says "Delete on Reboot" and checkmark the box "Unregister DLL" (If available) Click the RED X and it will ask you to confirm the file for deletion…say YES and when the next box opens prompting you to reboot now...click YES and it will reboot.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.

Under Main choose: Select All

Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser

Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All

Click the Empty Selected button.

NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Now go here and download Spybot

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Install it, and update it, and scan your system with it, and then select delete on anything it shows found.

Reboot and this should fix your issue
