Video/Audio stuttering during playback using Videowave in Roxio 9

Rayi

Question

I have DCR-TRV460 Sony Digital 8 camcorder and I captured avi video via the firewire port. I am getting video/audio stuttering during Videowave playback. Oddly, it will not stutter during video editing, so it is difficult to edit out the parts that do. It is sometimes inconsistent in various parts. In some players it will not stutter at the same points. PowerDVD 4 seems completely unaffected with the avi file, there is no stuttering at all during playback. Cineplayer is affected. MS Media Player 10 is affected. I wonder what is going on with this behavior. I captured 25 hours of home movies with Roxio 7.5 and never encoutered this problem, although I was mainly capturing my old video 8 tapes onto my harddrive with the Digital 8 camcorder with the exception of 1 digital 8 tape which I copied from a VHS player to the Digital 8 camcorder. I am just now actually capturing video that was used shooting events in Digital 8. So I wonder what is going on? thank you for any ideas.

I am also having problems in MyDVD where the preview mode does not play very well. The video/audio stutters alot. I was doing some music videos using popular video clips and didn't have problems like this before. It seems that ever since I defragged this computer, I am having problems. Although, this particular home video I am doing now was created after the defrag.

I ended up completely reinstalling WinXP pro on another hard drive to get it to stop stuttering. Although, now, even after completely reinstalling Windows XP pro, I am getting a suddenly quit in MyDVD which wasn't happening before. The only thing I have done different is that when I was installing my ATI driver, the latest driver was requiring that at least net framework 2 is installed. So I installed netframework 2. Also, the driver I was using had the same numbers as the current one I downloaded. So they should be the same, although, I don't recall it requiring I install net framework 2. I have to save alot but I was able to burn an image to my hard drive. I hope Roxio 9 is coming out with an update. I used to not have alot trouble with WinXP till lately. I also wonder whether I should get a 256mb Video card. I don't want to spend alot of money on one though. Just something reliable.

I would bet that that Radeon card is the problem. Try updating the drivers for it, and see if that makes a difference.

I do have a recent update of the driver. It does seem that alot of the problem is during the Video capture. I am getting inconsistent video capture. Like I said, I did 25 hours of video capturing using Roxio 7.5 with not one problem.
