parexcellence
I have copied a number of my DVD's to hard disc folders. Now I want to convert them to MPEG's. Version 7 could do this, but I do not see it in version 8. Version 8 needs the DVD to be in the drive to "capture". Is it still possible to do this in ver 8. revmerkle
Sorry Paul. Media Import does NOT capture from a video_ts folder. Only from a disc. Gary, I see you responding several times with Media Import.... "only from disc.." Not with me... I can't get the thing to recognize the disk. It sees the drive but doesn't see any files... I see them in Explorer (vob files)... Any ideas how I can get a home video (that is now on DVD and playable in DVD players and PC) onto my disk so I can edit it...? Media Import does not seem to work .... Thanks, Bob
ggrussell
Was it recorded on a stand-alone recorder or by software on a computer? Some of those recorders use DVD VR format which MyDVD can read directly. Launch MyDVD8 Insert the disc Click on FILE / EDIT DVD DISC See if that works. ekschwab
The Media Import does not work very well for me at all. I've just about given up on it. The Roxio support stinks. It is confusing and you cannot get to anyone without paying. I have been scouting for another import/convert utility or program. If anyone knows of one I would certainly like to know about it. Thanks.
ggrussell
If you are having certain trouble with the program, Roxio does not charge. It is determined before they ask for a credit card (unless they've changed that). Media Import does no conversions like MPG to AVI. Personally, I only use Media Import to capture from my digtial camcorder and I even have several other apps that will do that. I don't use it for photos or audio. However, it does work on both of my machines listed below.

Media Import doesn't work (only shows me the drive and not the folder structure) Click on search and it comes up with nothing. But the DVD is in place and it's just a home video. MyDVD sees the folder structure and VOB files. I load it but it is bogus. Thumbnail looks to be a transparent layer and when played the video is blank. When I edit it same thing. But yet somehow several players play it (include Roxio's player).... I've even copied the file off and renamed to mpg.... but Roxio what see but a portion of a 29 minute clip. I'm not impressed with Roxio I've been stupid and have kept upgraded from version 6.... never seems to get any better at doing simple tasks.... Any thoughts.... Use Media Import, choose Video and select the folder, then from the drop down list, select the file you want to convert to. I haven't tried this myself but it should work. There are others here who are more experienced with this so they'll correct me if I'm off base here (and I can learn something myself). I'm not at a system where I cna try this now. No need to apologize Gary, I'm the one who should for giving the wrong info. Glad I covered my arse but I did think this would work. Maybe something for the developers to work on huh? Thanks for setting the record straight.
ggrussell
One of those V7 features that I used sometimes. I keep thinking about going back to V7 because of all the missing features that we had.
