Is EMC9 better than 7?

zesty

Question

I tried searching but didn't see the answer to this question. I have EMC7 with the upgrade to 7.5 right now. It works fine, the only reason I'm thinking of getting EMC9 suite is that I've had problems with my computer crashing and if it crashes I lose my upgrade to EMC 7.5. So I figured it would be easier to upgrade and then also I'd be able to get IE7 which isn't compatible with EMC 7.5.

I like to create movies and slideshows and work with music (ripping from LP's and cassettes, mixing and cutting music tracks, etc) I have an older (7-10 year old) gateway computer with and AMD Athlon processor. We've upgraded memory and sound card and added extra hard drive. Is it worth the money to upgrade? I've got an offer to upgrade for $50...I need to decide if I want to act on that offer before it expires!

Thank you for any suggetions! :)

I can almost gurarantee that your computer won't run EMC 9. Also, since you are having problems with crashes, you would need to find the root of that and fix it, prior to upgrading to a higher version of EMC.

Here are the mimimum requirements for EMC 9. If your computer doesn't far exceed the minimum requirements, it will be slow, provided you can get it to run.

granpabruce,

I have 768 MB of RAM and 1 hard drive with 111 GB capacity and a 2nd with 186 GB capacity

You don't think that's enough? I'm not that savvy with computer specs...so I'm just wondering. Forgot to add that I'm running Windows XP Pro.

Thanks.

Need your video card. Do you have an on-board chip or card for video?

Update Microsoft's DirectX. 9c

Right click My Computer and choose Properties.

Click on the Hardware tab.

Select Device Manager

Double-click Display Adapters. You're video card make and model is displayed.

Ogdens,

I have an NVIDIA RIVA TNT 2 Model 64/Model 64 pro. Is that good? I'm sure I'm running the latest DirectX for the kids' games! :)

If this is all good does that mean EMC 9 will run good on my system? Is EMC 9 better that 7 or not??

Thanks everyone for their help.

EMC 9 has more programs than EMC 7, and it has completely redone VideoWave, and what was know as DVD Builder. DVD Builder is now MyDVD.

EMC 9 uses/requires more system resources than EMC 7. I suspect that you would have a hard time running EMC 7. Your system won't run EMC 9, so don't upgrade your software.

Thank you Grandpabruce :)

You saved me from wasting money on something that won't run on my pc. :D

dont do it. EMC9 doesn't have the effects are the overlays the 7 has. I wish my 7 was working and put it back into my computer.

I didn't think it had as many effects and overlays,, I wonder if I'm missing something?

It seems strange that you haven't provided feedback to responses to your 1st post (where you mentioned that you just installed EMC9) and most likely you haven't played much with EMC9 and already giving "don't use" type of advice.

Can you please tell us how many overlays are there in EMC7 and how many are there in EMC9?

If you bought the full EMC 9 disc version, did you install both program and content discs?

If you have a version that came on your computer, it may be limited.

If you bought MyDVD, some versions only have limited menus and transitions.

If you have the full EMC 9, and are running in software render, there are about 130 transitions; many of which can be run forward or backward.

If you have the full EMC 9, and are running in hardware mode, there are about 230 transitions, many of which can be run forward or backward.

In addition, for many of the transitions, you can change "color".

Did you count?
