Blank Thumbnails MyDVD9

tibu

Question

I have Media Creator 9 and am using MyDVD 9 to create a DVD. I have imported a video and created chapter points. On the menus that were created where the chapter thumbnails should be it is blank space, it looks like a place holder for the video's thumbnails. The lnks themselves work, just no thumbnail.

The project is HQ w/ 30 minutes remaining so space should not be an issue. Same problem on SP.

I also tried right clik to select thumbnail, still does not show.

I have reinstalled the software.

EDIT TO ADD: I trie dburning to disc, the thumbnails are not there either.

Any other ideas?

Help!?

1) As Gary asked, what kind of video card do you have? Could you please provide the specific name of the card?

2) After importing the video, did you do any editing on that (say in Videowave)? I once ran across a problem where thumbails in the submenu were showing gray-checkered image. I went back to the title and removed the color panel and transition (the first items in y video) and re-load it as the new title. In my case, the thumbnails showed up after doing that (removing still image as the first panel). I cannot say it will work for you but it seemed to have done the trick for me.

It is the gray-checkered image I see in place of the thumbnail.

Video Card: NVIDIA GeoForce2 MX/MX 400

No editing done after import.

"I went back to the title and removed the color panel and transition (the first items in y video) and re-load it as the new title."

I'm not real sure what you are describing here, I will have to check into this further on my home PC. I think I know what you are referring to as far as the color panel and transition, is this available on the options menu?

As far as re-load it as the new title, I am not sure what this is. Does this mean to rename the video on the main menu and then re-do the chapter creation?

Larry: I have tried different themes and buttons.

ALL: As a workaround, I can create unlinked buttons and point to the created chapters. In this instance a thumbnail is present. Is there anything I need to be aware of with this method? Will the menu link play that chapter then rturn to the main menu, or will it continue automatically to the next chapter? (I'll have to test this at home tonight).

I am impressed with the help on this board, thank you all!

Be aware that the Geforce 2 does not meet the minimum requirements for Videowave/MyDVD. That chipset was designed for an earlier version of DirectX so it is impossible for it to fully support DirectX 9.

Thanks! Any recommendations on a card I assume me Geoforce was a PCI, so I'll update it tiwth a PCI card.

My PC is a 2.4 GHz P4 with 1 GB Ram. Can I install any newer video card? I use the PC for photos and videos, and business applications, not games.

Will a newer card speed up processing?

What video card do you have? Have you updated your drivers and DirectX?

Hi, I thought that would be asked, I just didn't get back here in time to add my additional comments. They are the latest.

I have the latest video drivers (nvida geoforce), and direct X , and am running a screen resolution of more than 1024x768,.

Additional Info I discovered:

When I add a video, the main menu displays a thumbnail that links directly to the video, it is JUST THE CHAPTER MENUS that do not display the thumbnail.

Check your motherboard to see if you have just PCI or AGP slot. There are many cards in the $50-80 range that should work well with Videowave/MyDVD. Video rendering is CPU intensive. The way I understand it, Videowave/MyDVD will use the GPU on the video card only for the 3D transitions and effects.

****************** PROBLEM SOLVED!! ******************

Thank you so much for all your help. I installed a new graphics card and the thumbnails are there now. MyDVD used to be painfully slow navigating around to edit the menus. It was also very slow in preview. NOT NOW, I expected some improvement, but we are talking a HUGE improvement here. I am creating an "iso" file now and it is lightning speed compared to before. I can't wait to see how the render speed differs (especially for photo slide shows and video edits to light/shadows, etc.).

I should have made this move a long time ago, I feel set free!

In case anyone is wonderng, I had an AGP (brown color) slot and following is upgrade info in case it helps someone reading this:

OLD CARD

NVIDIA GeoForce2 MX/MX 400

64MB DDR

800 Million pixels/sec fill rate

2.7 GB/Sec. Memory Bandwidth

NEW CARD

NVIDIA GeoForce 7600GS

512MB DDR2

4.8 Billion pixels/sec fill rate

8.64 GB/Sec. Memory Bandwidth

The system in general is faster too. Maybe something was wrong with my previous card.

What improvement you are seeing is how fast the system draws the display. There is a huge difference between those two video cards. How fast dialog boxes open and close will certainly make things quicker. You have the same card that I have. Glad to hear the thumbnails are now working like they should be.
