Copying files to DVD+RW's

Trouard

Question

After the installation of EMC 9, I find that I cannot copy or move files to my RW's that I have all my saved files and programs saved on. It seems like something to do with the UDF reader, but I could be all wet. I know with ECDC 6 I had no trouble formating, copy and moving files back and forth with windows explorer to my DVD+RW, but now it says that access is denied because the disc is full and I know it is not. With ECDC 6 I had Drag to disc running and I did not have to open it, but now even if I open the interface up, it will read it, but will not write to them. Yes most of my copying and moving for this purpose, I use Drag to disc because it was so easy, but it does't seem like I can't set the option's right in Drag to disc to be able to write to my re-writables. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I can't get this working, I just as soon uninstall EMC 9 completely and install back ECDC 7. Please help!!!

Ralph :angry2:

P.S. I hope I made some sense with my rambling on.

In EMC9, drag to disc is a bit different (I think it has something to do with needing to make it Vista compatible). So it's not fully backwards compatible, as you are finding out. If you re-format those discs using v9, you should then be able to write to them. They should also be writable using v6 then also. The caviate here is that v9 has to do the formating.

Thanks for your reply., but I cannot get D2D to do anything right. I took a brand new RW and formatted it(full format), then I copied a bunch of my files from the C drive and now every time I try to do something, even eject the disk, it says the recorder is busy. If I disable D2D, I can eject the disc manually, but not with D2D, because it tells me I have to have d2d loaded to be able to eject. I can read the disk all I want, but I can't do anything else after I wrote it. I am dealing with RW's ONLY!! I tried to format my other DVD that was done with ECDC 6 and it will not let me do anything. I am totally confused. I have to have d2d working because I use windows explorer a lot to copy and move my files to and from my dvd's. Mostly all RW's. How can I use my other DVD RW's with this software D2D 9? I am messed up bad and I do know a little bit about computers and stuff. Please help if you can, if not I will have to uninstall it completely and put back ECDC 7. Thanks for listening.

You can use Creator Classic with DVD RW's. You don't need to uninstall the software, and you don't need to format the DVD when using Creator Classic.

But it is so much easier for me to be able to drag and drop and I need D2D to be working or I really don't need the software. Basically all I use 95% of the time is copy, moving and formatting my RW's. I hardly use CD+R's. I know I have more program than I need, but I think at the least, D2D should be able to work correctly. I just put my RW that I formatted and copied my files to using win explorer and all d2d says now is RECORDER IS BUSY!!! and I cannot do anything, even eject the disc unless I exit D2D. Please help ME!!!

By the way....Thanks for your input GrandPa Bruce!!!

Ralph: Helping you get D2D working so you can use it as you have indicated is like helping someone learn how to shoot so they can commit suicide!

How do you know they aren't doing anything about it? Did they contact you?

No they have not contacted me. I have sent them three messages and I received nothing in return. I also talked to one of their support techs and he told that there was nothing they could do, but I don't think he actually know's where the heck he is at in the world, surely not in America!! I have also checked Ask Roxanne and there is nothing in her FAQ's or database concerning these types of problems. So therefore, what am I to expect?

James, may I apologize for my stupidity, but I have used d2d for a long time using ecdc 5, then ecdc 6 and I had no problems with it at all. It is what I am used to. Out of all the components of this update or the older ones for that matter, I only use D2D and I use it 99% of the time, so if version 9 cannot allow me to use windows explorer to copy, move, erase and format my disc, then it is no use to me. I hope you understand. I talked to a tech for Roxio on the phone for over an hour and he had no clue about what is going on with his software, especially D2D. I told "him", how it actually works. I'm sure he was over in India or wherever, but he was useless, almost. At least he sent me the instruction for a clean complete uninstall, so I can install ECDC 7 back on and carry out my business like I always have and understand. Sorry if this seems stupid, but that's all I wanted was for D2D to work close to how it worked in all the other versions of Roxio EMC or ECDC. I thank everybody who tried to help and I do appreciate it very much, but I just can't live with a product that doesn't work like it should and its' tech support has no clue!!! I just think, that to me it is a piece of junk. Thanks again!!!

Sincerely,

Ralph

Not really too sure what you have got installed on your sytem, you talk about Version 6, then 7, and maybe 9.

You can only have ONE of those "packet writers" (D2D) installed.

I was telling you what I had, not what was on my system. Before I bought and installed EMC 9, I had ECDC 6 running and had no problems with D2D or any other program. When I uninstalled 6, I installed 9 and that's when all the junk started happening with my computer. And D2D did not work at all, even though it had worked fine when I was running ECDC 6. Now I have unistalled this buggy piece of whatever, that is, EMC 9 and I re-installed EMC 7 and all is well and fine. It works like it is suppose to, even D2D. It works everytime and it works from windows explorer also. That is how it is suppose to work when you are just dealing with moving and copying files to my RW disks. It is very easy and very quick, but in version 9, it is a piece of junk and buggy and they know it and will not do anything about it and you can't get in touch with anybody who knows what their software is suppose to do. So now I am happy and I wont bother you all any more, although I just lost money on this buggy piece of you know what in EMC v9. And I know how D2D is suppose to work and it doesn't in version 9. Hope all is well.....Take care....

If you read the Tip & Tricks I posted you can see that I agree that V9 D2D is not as stable as previous versions.

The 'drive busy' is an indication of firmware that is out of date or other drive recognition problems. – The program only reports what the drive is telling Windows when queried…

The V9 D2D program does have some problems but 'drive busy' is not a program issue.

It could also be as simple as deleting the drive in Device Manager and rebooting.

You could uninstall V9 D2D (Add/Remove Programs) and do a minimal Custom Install of V7 to get V7 D2D installed.

A caution with that plan, Windows IE7 and/or Media Player 11 will break V7! For that matter, who knows what will happen with the next Windows update???

Well....James I have d/loaded from Plextor the latest and greatest firmware they have. What else can I do on that matter. I also have deleted the drive from device manager and restarted and that did not help. I am running Windows XP SP2 with IE 6 and media player 10 and I do not plan to update either one. I have them hidden in windows update and I don't have my Win update set to automatic. I do it manually just to make sure I don't update to IE 7 and Media Player 11, so I know ECDC 6 basic was running fine on my pc, and I do have ECDC 7, which I recived when I bought my new Plextor 755 SA (serial ATA) writer, which was not too long ago, so I hope 7 is just as good as 6 and that I hope not to have any problems, but I will just have to see, but I do know v9 has a lot of problems on my computer not just with D2D. Thanks for all your input and I do understand what you are telling me, but I think Roxio should have some kind of patches by now for some of these problems, but I can find them. By the way, I also ran Roxio's PX engine update for new writers, but that also didn't help. Have a Happy Easter and Thanks a lot.
