slow TiVo transfer

bmiller

Question

When I choose a recorded Tivo program in Tivo transfer and click Active transfer it takes FOREVER to transfer.

For a one hour program it takes a minimum of 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours. This morning I started an active transfer and 6 hours later it was still transfering so I stopped the transfer and restarted it and 3 hours later it was still in active transfer. Does anyone know what is happening?

Thanks

I am sure your TiVo is connected through 802.11b. You should either connect your TiVo with an ethernet cable of upgrade to an 802.11g. You will have the best performance by not using WIFI.

Our wireless router is a Linksys wireless G and the Tivo wireless adapter is 802.11b/g

Thanks for the info. I will try hard wiring the Tivo to the MAC

If I use the browser interface the transfer is much faster. This program needs fixing.

I JUST bought Toast 8 and have only test transfered a couple of programs. You all are scaring me that this is horribly long & complex and possibly a waste of my time & money. .

I just recently changed my router to g (airport express). So maybe I'm as good as possible without hardwiring.

BUT -- what do you mean "use the browser interface"?? Of Tivo Transfer?

Thanks!

Kath

How do I hard wire the TIVO to the network??

Irv

To the person who asked about how to hard wire Tivo to PC (Mac, in my case). You need a USB to Ethernet adapter because the Tivo machine does not have an Ethernet port. If you get one, use the USB port on the Tivo, to an Ethernet line, into your router. You'll then have to go into Tivo settings and change the network settings slightly to reflect the switch from ireless to wired.

I too have the same problem. I am using a TiVo wireless adapter and new Netgear N wireless router. Tranfers usnig ver 1.01 are VERY slow, in fact half hang and never complete. This one has been runnig for a day!!!

My series 2 80 hour has an Ethernet connection on the back of the unit.

I have the 802.11 g adapter installed. Do you just go into the Tivo settings to change to the Ethernet connection and then have to reset it to the wireless to get it to go faster.
