Slideshow won't play on Set top but will on computer

momuffin

Question

First - been around these boards for at least 2 years - so my firmware/drivers/computer/spyware/virus - etc all up to date.

I've created a Slideshow, in VW, then burned to ISO file, then Diskcopied to Sony DVD-R, defraggin along the way.

My Slideshow plays in my computer.

On the TV, the slideshow displays the initial menu with only one title to pick from. I select that title using either the "OK" or "Play" button on the remote (DVD player is a Samsung).

Nothing happens.

The title is "outlined" as you would expect. When selecting the OK or Play the outline disappears, then a few seconds later re-appears - but again, the title does not play.

When I made the slideshow - I COULD play the one title in the Preview mode within DVD Builder as well.

Yesterday I made a movie - same set up, same brand of DVDn media, movie will play in computer AND on TV. Nothing has changed on my computer since yesterday.

Is it possible my one title is too big? But if so - then why does it play on my computer?

So while my movies play on both the computer and TV, my slideshow plays only on my computer.

Any ideas?

Thanks - Dan

"I've found the Sony's are working well and if this disk was somehow defective - woudl be the FIRST disk in about 250 that went bad."

I have used quite a few Sony DVD-R media and so far haven't found one that is bad. But that doesn't mean that one of these times I will find a bad one. After you try another one or another brand media, let us know how everything worked out.

I have run across one Player that produced similar results. In my case, 2 Titles, the Movie would play but the slideshow would not…

Do you have any DVD RW media you could make another test burn with? If successful I would try it again with a –R or +R disc.

Also, do you have another Player you could test the original disc with?

All right kids - here's the results.

Did a surface test on my "coaster" - no physical defects found

Re-burned same project on a RW - same issue - won't play

I ADDED a small "movie" title(about 1 min in length) to the project - lo and behold the slideshows played.

So...........

Now I mucked the research up a bit and changed a few parameters at once instead of individually.

1.) Changed the background photo - (doubt that would affect anything)

2.) Took my single, large slideshow and broke it into two separate slideshows - both titles still on the same DVD

3.) animated the thumbnails

4.) did NOT add the little "movie"

Saved - burned the ISO - then copied to the RW -

Sure enough - the slideshow played without a hitch.

Could it be that my single slideshow was too large??

Thanks for the reply James

I was at this late last night and before going to bed planned out the following - test the surface of the DVD, pull out my RWs and re-burn, also try to re-burn on another -R DVD.....last - didn't want to go there but - build a much smaller project and see if the size of my one title somehow mooks things up (doubt it - but who knows).

I could understand if my movies using the same media wouldn't play - went down that road when I first started using Roxio and lookign for compatable media. I've found the Sony's are working well and if this disk was somehow defective - woudl be the FIRST disk in about 250 that went bad.

I'll post back with results.

Thanks again

It sounds like you got your first coaster, then. All of us have been down that road.
