Content Disk Will Not Install

Question

I just installed the download version of REMC8 and had no problems and no errors, but when I try to install the content disk I keep getting a message that I need to reboot before I install the content disk. I have tried uninstalling and re installing but this did not fix the error. I am running Windows XP SP2 and have Norton disabled during the installs. Any ideas?

Before trying to install the Content Disk, open the program, and run Media Manager, Creator Classic, or some other program. Close out, reboot, and you will be able to install the Content Disk with no problem.

I tried that and it didn't work. I still Get the same error. Is there a file that may need to be deleted or a .ini file that needs to be edited?

This is installed on a XP home edition PC and yes that directory does exist. I also noticed that when I try to start PhotoSuite 8 I get the general error "PhotoSuite 8 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and the program shuts down.

Can you do me a favor...

1) Uninstall EMC 8

2) Create a new XP user account

3) Log in as that new user

4) Try to install EMC 8 as that new user....

5) Reboot

6) Login as that new user again, and try to install the content

It sounds like some registry settings were not created due to permissions issues, before we got modifying permissions it would help to know if another user account exhibits the same issue.

I did the install under a new user ID and the content disk installed. Everything seems to run ok except the Roxio Creator 8 Suite Home. I get a “Could not complete the last command because: Unknown error”. However on the default admin user ID I still get the same problems as before. If you can fix the permissions ofr this I will consider you a genius.

Well, here's the genius then. It seems that EMC8 doesn't cope too well with folder redirection. I had the same problem and it was related to the fact that the "Application Data" folder was redirected to the network. Because we're not going to redirect the Appdata folder back to the userprofile for 20000 users, this means that 160 users are unable to use this EMC8 on our network environment, so we introduced a different product. Bad call Roxio, specially because Roxio support didn't care at all. Too bad.

The Roxio software does not support network use, at least, not in this version. How many licenses for the software did you purchase? If it was not more than one, it isn't a bad call by Roxio. It is a bad call by your company.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will not be around much this weekend to try this, but I will be here on Monday and will post my results.

Are you logging in to a domain or is this a home machine?

The reason that message appears is that there is no media manager database created.

Does this directory exist on your machine? Remember to substiture your username in to the path when you're browsing to this folder.

c:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Roxio\MediaManager8

Didn't buy any yet, and not going to anymore. 160 licenses. We need a good user friendly multi-media tool for our end-users and have been using CD creator for a while. Using pinnacle now. Users 'll have to get used to it, but the tests are looking promising.
