MyDVD Invalid Disc

erfoley

Question

I just installed, multiple times, EMC 9. Finally seemed to get everything working after having to uninstall the DE version that came with the laptop, run the DLA patch for Vista, clean up the registry....etc. I create a project in VideoWave and then go over to MyDVD to burn it. Previews fine in MyDVD but when I go burn the DVD I get the "Please insert valid media" pop-up box.

From the status bar at the bottom I am told my disc size is 75 min and I have used 148.8MB and have 501.2 MB Free. Looks like MyDVD thinks I just have a CD burner for some reason even though it recognizes my hardware correctly as a "SONY DVD_RW DW-Q58A UDS2" in the burn project box.

One of the previous topics suggested reinstalling EMC 9:

I have done that twice so far and still no luck. Any other suggestions, fixes or patches out there that can fix this problem? How about selling a version of the software that actually works?

The highlighted text tells me you are working on a VCD or SVCD project. You need to start with a DVD project.

The only type of project I can create in the File>New Project is a VCD project. The other options are all greyed out.

Maybe it is the order of the Steps???

Open MyDVD and select File – New Project – DVD (check the disc size now)

Click on Add New Movie and add your dmsm project file from VW.

It should be ready for a DVD at this point.

The "DVD" option under File --> New Project is greyed out and can't be selected when I try that.

I was not prompted ever to activate the mpeg codec. When would I get this prompt?

You should, at the least, after you've added a few mpeg files into MyDVD or VW. For some reason, sometimes it's the first time and some people have said it's taken many times for them to get the nag.

I tried adding mpeg's on several different projects. Some of the projects I added 5 mpeg's to but with no luck yet. Anyway to force adding the codec?

You may have accidentally clicked on Don't show this message again, the first time it asked you to activate. That message does come up, which is ridiculous.

I think your best option is to follow the instructions for doing a clean uninstall/install, and hope it works.

Hey, if everything works and you're not asked to activate, why worry? :P

You can try the manual activation process

I followed the instructions but never received an activation dialog. The MyDVD still does not let me start any new project that isn't a VCD project. Any other ideas?

Followed those instructions numerous times with diminishing hope that they would work with each reinstall. At this point my best bet may be to uninstall Roxio and go buy Nero.

I'm sorry, I got confused and thought you were able to use all the functions without activating....duh!

Months back after going from the Suite to Deluxe, I had to do a clean install 3 times before I could finally activate and use mpeg files. Yes, it shouldn't be this hard but I can't tell you why some of us suffer and others don't.
