Unable to capture mpg file fromDVD video disc

dickh

Question

I just installed EMC Suite version 9. I did not install the Media Manager. Would that be the reason I cannot capture video from a DVD although the capture program sees the DVD in the drive. When I click on it, the original message telling me the different ways I can capture reappears. If I need to install the Media Manager, can I install it on top of my present installation, or do I need to uninstall everything and start over?

Media Manager isn't needed. I don't have it installed. What error messages are you getting if any? What is Media Import doing or not doing?

My problem is that I am unable to capture an mpg file from a DVD disc. After reading some of the emails here I wondered if the cause of that problem was the fact I did not install the media manager. When I attempt to capture the file, I click on the drive where the disc is located, and I return to the original login screen. I have tried several discs, none of which work. But I can capture the file from Roxio 7.5 and Nero.

After further trials I find I can import some DVDs, but not others. I don't know what the distinction is. However, the process is very slow. For example, importing a four minute DVD with Roxio 9 takes almost two minutes. The same DVD imported via Roxio 7.5 or Pinnacle takes less than 10 seconds. Is this problem unique to my system?
