Error code 0x80045208 "Opening Project failed"

KeepCrashing

Question

Hi, this is my first time posting, but I am soooo aggravated with this software (DVD Builder in Easy Media Creator 7). I've already purchased EMC9 but since I could not import my "old" slideshow production to the new software, I was trying to finish it up before uninstalling version 7 and upgrading to version 9.

To give a little history, I've already crashed my computer once (in December) while trying to burn a Roxio production to disc, which entailed a complete reinstall of my hard drive. :angry2:

Then in March, just as I was wrapping up my latest project, a rather large one (almost 4.7GB--but in my opinion if the software accepts a file that large then burning it shouldn't be an issue), Roxio froze and I was unable, after being on the phone for 2 hrs with Roxio Help, to recuperate my file. Fortunately I had already successfully burned one copy of the DVD slideshow (just not the final copy I wanted  )

So, as I am a sucker for punishment, I decided I'd go back and recreate the DVD (yes, from scratch, music and all) with the intended changes and ship the "new and improved" version to my Dad as a belated b'day present. The file is larger so rather than burn to a 4.7GB disc in "low" quality, I opted for a 8.5GB disc in "best" quality. And guess what? It worked--the first time...

However, when I went to burn a second copy, the results were not as favourable. When I came back 2 hrs later, my screen had frozen and the DVD was not being recognized in the D: drive.

That being said, I decided to make a couple of more changes project (big deal). When I then attempted to burn this "absolutely final version" I got no further than Step 1 of 7: Error code=0x80045208 "Opening project failed". I've shut down and restarted my computer and retried 3-4 times with the same result.

I REALLY hope that using a DVD+R DL (double layer DVD) did not screw up my burner/CD Rom (which, incidently is a Toshiba CD/DVDW SDR5372V). I figured since it had burned once to this type of disc successfully, that all was cool.

Can anybody offer some advice because I've gotten nowhere with Roxio help. Note: I'm not very computer savvy so a lot of heavy computer jargon is lost on me. :)

Thanks!!!

According to this link http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters.php?DV...arch&list=2

that burner is a very poor one and maybe causing all your problems.

I find saving to an image file first, then burning to a dvd after better for a number of reasons. You can check the ISO you've created before ruining a dvd and, once it's good, you can make as many copies of it as you want and usually, without any problems.

Other things to check is to be sure you have the latest firmware for your burner.

Your DVD burner burns DL DVDs according to this link.... http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=8182...000659c000029b6

So you should not have messed up your burner.

If you still have that first DVD that you burned successfully, you should be able to just copy it without going through the encoding step (which can take forever)

Open Disk Copier and do as Bruce suggests. Put the good DVD in your burner and as soon as the program recognizes the DVD in the drive, copy it to an .iso file on your hard drive.

Then using Disk Copier, burn from the .iso file to a new DVD. You should be able to burn as many copies as you need easily.

And a tip.... Make your productions in VIDEOWAVE. Also, when you're making a production, do a File\ Save As... and make another copy of that production file. Then as you edit, occasionally do a File\Save As.... and switch back to the other copy of the production. That way, if the program freezes and one of the production files becomes corrupt, you'll have a second copy. This won't work in some versions of DVD Builder due to a program bug.
