Cannot burn cd

frustrated10000

Question

Ok where to start at here. I have a dell dimension E310 XP2 IE7, one week over a year. It came with roxio creator plus dell edition. I have burned cd's in the past, but now I am unable too. I have done everything Roxanne or whatever it's called said to do. Beofre I done this patch, reinstall, and rolled back to windows media player 10, it wouldn't recogize previously burned or blank cd. Now it recogizes burned but still not blank cd's. My drive is recognized and it says it is running fine, but why can't I burn then. I have reinstalled basically everything I can think of here. Dell is no hope on this problem. so hopefully I can get some help here. I think I supplied all info here, let me know if you need more.

You are welcome. I hope the Philips works out for you. They don't have a real good track record, but I have seen reports that the newer models are better than the junk they pushed on Dell a couple of years ago.

Man from the North, I wouldn't be bad mouthing the Phillips Drives. BenQ's are built with the Phillips chipset from the 1620 to the 1655's. Your BenQ 1655 has the Phillips Nexperia PNX7862EL chipsset for it's heart. Checked it's pulse lately?

I am talking about the models that shipped with Dell. They were bad burners, and they preceded the BenQ models that we have. ;)

I am able to recognize blank cd-rw, but still not cd-r. I was able to burn a cd on a cd-rw. I guess i will just junk all of my cd-r's and use only rw's until something else happens thanks for your help. You offered me more help than DELL!!! :D

I'd try a different burner, before I would dump the blank CD's.

Well Dell finally answered my report with the BBB. They sent me a new Philips DVD+/-RW and it works fine. I upgraded to IE7 and WMP11 and when i insert any type of blank media, it asks me what I would like to do, and it burns a lot faster. Thank you for your help!!

And did you also roll IE 7 back to IE 6 yet? If not do so.
