cdanteek
Home Page Falcon Cam "Perhaps you’ve spotted them, “cliff racing” in tandem across the face of San Jose City Hall at high speed. Or perched on the building’s window ledges, seemingly enjoying the attention of on-lookers from above and below. These are the two peregrine falcons that moved to Downtown San José in 2004-05, but have made City Hall home. City employees have named them (Santa) Clara and Jose (Fernando.) In 2006 City staff worked with the UC Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group (SCPBRG) to install a nest box on the roof. The greatest news to date came when City Staff and SCPBRG spied three eggs in the nest box. Now web cam or falcon cam has been added to the nest site, where parents and (hopefully) babies can be directly observed until the babies fledge and are able to leave the nest." REDWAGON
Birds of prey are my most favorite animals as far as Fowls are concerned, especially eagles and falcons. I'm having a problem though with the Falcon Cam, cd. When I click on the link you have for the falcon cam, it starts "buffering" and goes clear to 100% but then it starts all over again and I never get any video. It just continues to loop through the buffering stage. I tried clicking on the SJ home page link you had and then clicked on the falcon cam from there and it still does the same thing. Just continues to loop through the buffering. Any ideas of what I am doing wrong ? or ??? Frank....

I even went to the San Jose City web site (BTW, not through the forum) and clicked on the Falcom cam button. Still have the same luck. REDWAGON
Yeah, that would be nice to see. I just have to figure out why I can't make their falcon cam work. This incident is very similar to the one that happened in New York City some time ago. There was a red tailed hawk (as I remember) that had taken up with a female and made a nest on a ledge on the side of a very tall building. There were no cameras set up like the falcon cam to watch it all happen but there were many people sitting on the street that took some incredible video of the whole thing. They televised the entire thing. Frank...

Guest ml
This is a Link to a website I was referring to about the red tailed hawks in New York City: http://www.palemale.com/ Frank... That red tailed hawk is still around? Amazing and wonderful. I saw that program and he and his mates have been raising chicks for several years now...... much to dismay of some of the people in the apartment building they roost on. When the humans wanted to 'evict' the hawks, there was quite a fuss. The apartment is across from Central Park which is apparently full of tasty morsels for chicks. As to your IE problem.... the San Jose website has these suggestions.... Internet Explorer: Open Internet Explorer. Go to Tools > Internet Options. Click the Advanced tab. Make sure the Use Java checkbox is selected.
cdanteek
ml, if I remember correct? After XP SP2, it either hosed or removed java out of the OS. I had to go to Sun and download it to have it! I run Sun microsystems 1.5.0 stand alone java. Under tools in IE I show Sun Java Console. cd

There is a pop-up blocker in the IE Options Security Settings, and there is also a setting to enable the scripting of Java applets. Whether that is the problem or not, I haven't a clue. lynn98109
This has to do with that wonderful anti-trust suit to force MS to quit adding Java to Windows, I think. Lynn
gi7omy
This has to do with that wonderful anti-trust suit to force MS to quit adding Java to Windows, I think. Lynn Oh the problem between MS and Java was nothing to do with them using Sun Java - they wanted to change the basic structure as their VM setup and Sun hauled their collective posteriors into court over breach of terms and conditions and they were told to stop messing round with it, so, in a fit of pique they pulled it

Actually, the falcon is sitting on the nest, and moves its head around. That's all there is, but as CD says, it should be nice when the chicks hatch. REDWAGON
"Actually, the falcon is sitting on the nest, and moves its head around. That's all there is..." Well, halaluya Thanks Bruce for that information. All this time I have been watching that silly falcon cam thinking that the bird is going to do something more than just sit there at move around a bit. In that case I have been watching what everyone else is watching So I guess I don't have any problems after all The buffereing starts and I see the falcon sitting on the nest and moves a few times but as I look at the video, the buffering keeps on doing it's thing also, and the little time thing keeps on growing. That's why I thought I was not getting everything. BTW ml, I did try and use your suggestion to "Use Java", but on my computer there is not one line or listing that has anything to do with Java. (IE6, TOOLS--OPTIONS--ADVANCED (tab)). There is nothing else in any of the other tabs either that has anythng to do with java. I guess anyone that has any of those optional settings for Java must have downloaded them from somewhere else, as XP Home/SP2 doesn't have any setting for Java, at least on my computer. BOY, sitting here for two days trying to figure out why my computer is not working right--- Errrrruuuuggg !! Frank...
