MyDVD LE v6.1.1

Snake Plissken

Question

Don't think this particular problem has been discussed, so here goes.

Up until recently I had no problem burning dvds with MyDVD LE 6.1.1. Now for some reason it ejects the disc shortly after starting to write files after going through transcoding etc. without any problems. It also won't burn data discs. When it stops burning I get error messages like 2130935812-4 or 2130970883-4 (the only 2 I noted). Also when I first run the program I get a warning saying that "MyDVD has detected that DMA is turned off on 1 or more of the recording devices attached to the system". I did a search on how to turn on DMA & everything is fine.

I'm using a Dell Dimension 5150 with a HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B with up to date drive firmware. (Using Roxio Creator Plus Dell Edition to burn audio cds works perfectly).

I've seen other posts where it suggests WMP11 may cause problems but I've had that installed for quite a while and, as stated, this is a very recent problem. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply, Larry. Ok, removed drive & rebooted then checked device manager. Here's the results:

Primary IDE Channel Device 0 Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 5

Primary IDE Channel Device 1 Current Transfer Mode: Not Applicable

Primary IDE Channel Device 0 Current Transfer Mode: PIO

Primary IDE Channel Device 1 Current Transfer Mode: Not Applicable

Secondary IDE Channel Device 0 Current Transfer Mode: Not Applicable

Secondary IDE Channel Device 1 Current Transfer Mode: Not Applicable

Does having 2 PRIMARY IDE Channels listed make sense? I tried changing the one in PIO mode to DMA but without success.

I had wondered if it was the drive itself, from searching forums over time related to other issues, opinions on this particular drive have not been very favourable.

*edit* I also have IE7 installed but as with WMP11, this has not caused problems before.

No, that doesn't look right. What do you have connected to the primary IDE and in what order on the cable. Also do you know what the jumpers are set to, CS, Master, Slave?

IE 7 could still be an issue, but I think the problem is the IDE reporting what you're listing. That PIO is an issue.

Thank you Larry!

You know, Microsoft software don't ask when it installs updates that screw down compatibility with the 3'rd party software. But I am afraid the problem is in something else, since when it attempts to burn CD it fails with the error: "Invalid class string (UnknownErr, -2147221005)"

This is the problem with MyDVD that worked fine before. The problem with RecordNow 8 Premier 8 is, it has no option at all to burn DVDs! Only the link on the site where to buy a new software!

Hmmm... I've found also Windows Media Format 11 Runtime.

Is it related?

Yes the WMP 11 can be a problem. You should remove all WMP 11 related stuff. Did you look at the article I linked to earlier on WMP 11? What about IE 7, do you have that installed? Did you uninstrall it?

The only other thing I can suggest you try is the PX Engine update. It may help.

I've deinstalled both WMP 11 packages (player and Format), it did not help.

I can't find the button how to deinstalll IE, any help please?

It should be listed in Add/Remove programs as Internet Explorer 7 or Miscrosoft Internet Explorer 7, or something to that effect.

I've checked, it is 6'th version. So, no IE7, no WMP 11. It crashes on "Building menus..."

I've reinstalled RecordNow and MyDVD, it did not help.

Looks like Sonic/Roxio has compatibility issues with Microsoft system software updates.

The same error message from MyDVD,

Invalid class string (UnknownErr, -2147221005)

I have very similar problem: my Sonic MyDVD stopped writing DVDs. Failed to contact technical support (instead of answering my questions they every time advertized me their new Record Now 8) I bought that Record Now 8 Premier that promiced to solve all my problems.

I installed it, but it still did not want to burn DVDs. I had no more time to spend and postponed the idea.

Today I've reinstalled both products, MyDVD 5.3 LE and RecordNow 7.3LE, also RecordNow 8 Premier on another computer that for sure contains good and well working DVD reader/writer, but still can't burn DVDs: MyDVD shows VideoCD option only, RecordNow 8 Premied instead of burning a DVD suggests me to buy a new version of the software!

Dear Sonic & Roxio ladies and gentlemen, how many versions of your products do I need to buy to get at least one of them properly working?

To be honest, I'm a complete novice as regards hardware & related problems and that's a bit over my head. However, I tried your suggestion of removing the drive again, switched off my pc as I had to go to work, & when I got home everything was fine. I've just burnt a dvd with no problems.

Many thanks once again for your help, Larry, really appreciate it.

If it burns CD discs ok, but is haveing problems burning DVD discs, it might be an indication of your drive starting to go bad. The drive uses two different lasers for burning depending on if it's a cd or dvd disc.

What you can try is to go into your Device manager and remove the drive, then reboot so your drive is re-detected. then check it in device manager again and see if it is set to DMA not PIO transfer mode.

Well, your problem does not sound the same at all, and may have been better placed in a new post. Anyway....

To start, as FYI, this is a user forum sponsored and maintained by Roxio/Sonic, not a form of contacting them. For that you can use this page.

If it has worked before, and suddenly does not, then something has changed on your system. Throwing more software (burning programs in particular) at it isn't going to fix it. Start with the following, and if that doesn't help, come back with more details, especially your system specs and any error messages you are getting.

Do you have IE 7 installed? If so, uninstall it.

Do you have WMP 11 installed? If so, uninstall it per MS instructions.

That's good to hear. Maybe doing the "cold boot" (shutting off the pc rather than reboot) helped after you removed the drive. Glad to hear it worked out for you. Have fun. :)
