marlinsinger
Dell has decided to again sell systems loaded with XP. http://apnews.excite.com/article/20070419/D8OJVLTO0.html
lynn98109
"Last call, last call - get it now or not at all!" Because Microsoft will block that option after the end of January 2008. http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,130710-c,xp/article.html Lynn
Beerman
Good move but will Dell and others be punished by Microsoft for not following their fules?
golinux
In addition to XP, Dell is now going to offer Ubuntu Linux to Home users. It was also announced on the Ubuntu site but the page totally bombs in IE! I think that's hilarious!! Previously RedHat or Suse were available but only on their business models. cdanteek
Hey Sister, I agree with Paul, and wonder what big stick MS will swing at Dell? If this is the link your referring too, I have no problem viewing the site on IE6. http://www.ubuntu.com/news/dell-to-offer-ubuntu cd

lynn98109
Shows fine in Firefox, but IE 6 shows just the blank that looks like an extra page on top of the announcement page - as shown above in the thread. Lynn

Beerman
Been toying with Ubuntu's lastest version when I have time to play with it. It's not bad but I can't see how very many will be jumping ship to Ubuntu or any Linux version full time. The Myth TV program is not even close to comparing to other freebies like GB-PVR but I will say, they do throw in lots of other goodies for free. And, it saw and set up my network in a flash. It does have it's positives but Dell will go back to selling Vista and follow Bill's marching orders.

You can load up any of a couple of Office style programs, a number of TV programs, audio programs - even the bootloaders give you a choice of which you want - not to mention the desktop itself where you choose between Gnome and KDE (hey, there's even a 'kuv' deskop - think ku is Japanese for 9 and V is the Roman numeral for 5 and guess what it looks like ) And Linux networking is almost automatic - that's why it's so popular as a server

Plus, they're too busy fighting with Vista.
REDWAGON
I guess I'm one of those lazy individuals too Paul. I'll keep using XP till it dies. I'm still waiting to see what really will happen to Vista however. Frank...
