Install hangs

Willieuk

Question

I recently purchased EM9 after reading great reviews for the product. I previously had tried EM7 on my laptop so I new just how good the software was. I tried installing EM9 on my desktop computer, but only so much was loaded before the program hung. I was left with about 300Mb+ of loaded programs in "program files", registry entries and even a desktop shortcut! Problem was however that the program had not completely loaded so something somewhere was still missing. Trying to abort/cancel the program at the point where it had "hung" only caused my computer to go into a tail spin and lock up. I then had to reboot. I have read the article from the Roxio kb on "a clean uninstall" and have now followed the procedure three times, every time with the same result. Installation goes ahead until near the end just after the install wizard tells me that it is " registering modules" and the green progress bar is about 80% complete, the program hangs. Any body got a solution. Thanks in advance, Willie

Hi, and thanks for your suggestions. The Roxio kb instructions for a clean install actually ask you to suspend the "start up" programs by editing "msconfig" so that there is little running in the background, and certainly for my install Zonealarm, which I do use, was not running. Will try defrag, as it cant do any harm. Much obliged for your help. Willieuk

Without knowing your computer specs, especially video card and CPU, its hard to offer any suggestions.

If you still have trouble, I'd suggest you contact Roxio Tech Support..... (upper right hand corner of this screen)

Hi, I have a AMD 64x2 3800 processor on an Asus A8N sli d/lux motherboard and I have twin 7600gt nvidia graphics cards Willie

Before installing, turn off any background processes you don't need, especially virus software and internet security software. Zone Alarm is one of the biggest install offenders, if not shut down for the install.

Also, get rid of any malware/spyware that you have on your computer, and defrag your hard drive, before installing.
