CD Spin doctor will only record mono

hemhaw

Question

I bought Toast 8 so that I could burn CD's of my LPs using my RME converts as my input.

Using CD Spin Doctor in Advanced under Input Settings, when I select my audio input device (RME Hammerfalls DSP Multiface) as the Input Device then under Recording Quality, the only options are Custom and all mono. Options such as Voice Quality, CD Quality, DVD Quality, and DVD High Quality are all grayed out.

How am I to make stereo recording.

I have never had this problem routing multiple tracks to Nuendo.

All help would be appreciated.

I don't have any experience with the hardware you have, but make certain that it is also selected in Audio Midi Setup in the Utilities folder.

Thanks for the suggestion unfortunately it still doesn't work.

I don't think it is my hardware but Spin doctor not recognizing more than one channel.

Does anyone have any further advice regarding this?

I spent about 2 hours on the live chat support with no help.

He had no idea nor any suggestions about trouble shooting this problem.

Only suggested to follow up on the Wedticket I submitted 4 days ago.

If i get no response, does anyone know what the proper procedure is for returning the software for a refund?

(I must add that i spent a good deal of time before purchasing to see if I would have any compatibility issues.)

Am I right in saying that Spin Doctor has extremely poor documentation?

I think the problem is related to the hardware or at least to the settings in Audio MIDI Setup. If the Audio MIDI Setup shows the Audio Input setting for your input device as 44100.0 Hz and 2ch-16bit then Spin Doctor should offer the CD Quality option.

For example, change the Audio MIDI Setup input to Internal microphone and also change Spin Doctor's input to that setting (presuming your Mac has an internal microphone). You should see that Spin Doctor now offers the CD Quality option.

If the setting isn't working with your RME unit then Spin Doctor doesn't work with that. You'll need to use QuickTime Pro or some other audio capture application to get your AIFF files and then open them in Spin Doctor for filtering and track marking.

In Audio MIDI setup using as the default input: Hammerfalls DSP Mulitface(RME), it shows: 44100.HZ and 18ch-32bit.

In Spin Doctor under Audio details it shows 441000hz, 32 bit, Channels: 1 (mono)

Using both Nuendo and the Hammerfalls Mixer (RME) all inputs are recognized. I've been using these software and hardware for 3 years with out a single problem of this sort.

I understand how I can switch to the Built in Audio to get the CD Quality. I still wonder if Spin Doctor has trouble recognizing audio from hardware with multiple inputs and a higher bit rate.
