MyDVD 9 does not recognize video files

JFloyd

Question

I just purchased MyDVD 9and have installed it. I am trying to create a new DVD and click on "Add New Movie..." When I do this it brings up my list of video files, but they all have a red "x" on their icons. I cannot select any of them to add to my project. I can view all the files just fine in any of my media players (Windows Media Player, Real Player, etc) so I know I have the proper Codec installed. Why won't MyDVD recognize them?

Thank you for clearing that up, it makes more sense now why I can play files but not view them. I referred to the post you referenced and was able to follow it step-by-step until I got to the point it instructs to "Copy the DivXDec.ax file to your c:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\9.0\DivX\ directory. There should already be a few other divx files there.

The problem is that I do not have a DivX directory in that location.

Do you have the Standalone version of MyDVD 9 or did you get the EMC 9 suite?

If it's just the MyDVD 9 you purchased, you may only need to install the Divx codec.

Probably depends on what type of video files they are. Are they mpeg, AVI DV, Divx, Xvid, etc????

Keep in mind, playing a video file is different than rendering or editing a video file. Players may have their own codecs they use for playing, and other ones may be needed for editing/rendering.

If Divx, look at this post to see if it helps.
