creating a cd invalid format

Question

I'm using Music Disc Creator adding wma files using the Add Audio Tracks, and get the message:

The file "c:\documents ....\my music\Dan Fogelberg\Souvenirs\02 Illonois.wma" does not exist or is not a supported audio file.

I can play the song from inside Roxio Media Selector, so the song is ok, and since it will play, it must be in a supported audio format. The song was ripped from a CD and all other songs on that cd ripped at the same time can be selected....

I've run software updates, and it seems I'm up todate with EMC 8, so I'm stuck. I can go back and re-rip, but I've ripped all my cds and I get this message sparodically. Any suggestions would be appreciated.... Thanks,

It seems to be a bug, because if I go into EMC 8 Audio CD I can burn the song to a CD, so emc 8 can read it easy enough to allow it to burn. Cannot use the file in easy disc creator or sound editor, I can use the file in Audio CD. Any suggestions?

Open VideoWave and get the version number from there. It will be 8.0????. The 3.0 is the version only for the home page.

I edited out your Tech support ID.Probably shouldn't be putting that out to the public.

I wonder if by chance the "copy protect music" box was somehow checked in your ripping options in Windows. This can only be checked when making wma's.It would be a fluke but maybe. When you're in the Media Selector there is a little icon just to the left of the title,is it a lock on the songs you can't use?

All my music ripped has Protected "YES" in the library, even the ones I can open. Not sure why YES is on, unless media center defaults to that when ripping the songs, there is nothing that I did when ripping that intentionally turned that on. I Can't modify it to NO in Windows Media Player.

Try looking at the files in Windows Explorer.Right click on one of the ones that doesn't work.Go to Properties,go to the Summary tab and hit Advanced.Look under Origin and see what Protected says there.Do the same for one of the files you can use.

On my computer the files I turn the protection on when ripping with WMP say Yes and all the others say NO.I can't use the files that say Yes.

In WMP if you go to Tools,Options,Rip Music, can you uncheck "Copy protect music"?If it's greyed out try changing the format from mp3 to wma and then unchecking it.

I'm using Music Disc Creator adding wma files using the Add Aidio Tracks, and get the message:

If the music is off a CD and not something that was downloaded from an on-line store, open Sound Editor, add that piece of music and export it to the format of your choice. This usually "fixes" any formatting issues.

Try ripping that song as a .wav file, and see if that works. If you are using the ripped songs for a CD of various artists, you should be ripping all of them as .wav files, not low grade .wma files.

Thanks for the suggestion, but when I try loading the song from sound editor, I receive the same message. The music was ripped from a CD, and not bought online. Like I said, I can re-rip, but don't explain why the media selector can play the song and with over a thousand cds ripped to my library, it would take a long time to re-rip them all...

Did you load the song into Sound Editor and then export it? What do you mean by the bold text above?

Really sounds like a hiccup when you ripped that piece of music. Just do that one. Perhaps the music file was bad when that CD was made. I don't understand your comment about thousand CD's.

One of the file sharing programs was involved in this? In that case, anything could be the problem.

Sknis,

sorry for the confusion.... What i was trying to say is that I got the same message in Sound Editor as I got from Music Disc Creator; "file does not exist or is not a supported audio format". What is further confusing is that Music Disc Creator, media selector will play the song flawlessly, which means emc 8 can read the file. I re-ripped the song and I can use it now, but don't understand why roxio cannot handle the file, especially when it came from the same rip as the others and can play the song I receive this message on about 20% of all songs in my library (which is over 1,000 cd's), so having to re-rip for these songs is time consuming.

The 1,000 CDs were ripped using Windows Media Center.... I think I should have stayed away from WMA, did MP3 instead.
