failure to create album

Jeans

Question

I have presented this problem at the end of another discussion but it wasn't really similar enough so thought I would repost a new thread. I have had several issues and have managed to resolve them and thought my problems were behind me as I was able to produce 4 DVD projects that consisted of 24 videos. I used the capture video module in Creator 9 without a glitch importing vids from my sony dv handycam. A month after this project was done I started another very similar one, I hooked up the camera and got "failed to create album" as the error message. Now none of the other videos were in an album (I checked they were in a file) When I looked at albums in Media manager I had none, only the sample. I tried uninstalling, I was online with tech support for 2 days with 3 sessions and they were unable to solve the problem. All they could come with was to do a clean reinstall which I did and I still have the error. I can import with the sony program but it doesn't seem to be as good of quality and keeps stopping. Besides I spent good money to have this program work and I shouldn't have to suddenly do funky work arounds. My specs are below, my other project looked great, this is just baffling to me and evidently it is baffling to tech support! Help, Please!

Okay Steve thanks so much for the tip, don't know why I didn't think of that. I did the restore and it turned out that the conflict was caused by the Maxtor external drive I added for the videos. Now any ideas on how to use external storage for all my videos my internal drive is full and I like the idea of an external backup. Jeanne

Sorry, I missed your reply. That is something I have never heard of. It would not be the external drive but if it is that, it would be the firmware or software for that.

Are you running XP or Vista? I actually have two external Maxtor drives on my computer and they gave me no problems with XP. I wonder if where you have the drive plugged in is creating a conflict. Try plugging that drive into one of the USB ports on the back of your computer rather than one near the front. If you only have USB ports in the back, try a different one.

Perhaps it is the software that you are using for that back-up. I really don't like the Roxio back up programs and just had a problem restoring my hard drive with Acronis True Image. A lot of people have used that software with no problems. Is that Maxtor a One Touch with the software - I forgot what it comes with. Perhaps the back up software is not Vista compatible?

Anyway good luck.

You can always delete you own posts. You are correct in starting a new thread. I responded to the other thread but I'll also respond here.

Since you added no new programs, I would suggest some update may have caused the problem. As you already know, may people have issues when IE 7 and WMP 11 are installed. Your anti-virus probably also updates without you knowing it. I'm also pretty sure that you are knowledgeable and have search your computer for malware and have a clean defraggmented hard drive so we'll throw those out the window as possibilities.

My suggestion is to use Windows restore to get back to where you were able to capture and then start adding Windows/Anti-virus/ other program updates until you find the one that is the culprit. Really that should not take very long.

Sorry hit enter key I don't have IE 7 either. I did download ie plugin for firefox so maybe that is it. Will post if restoring solves my problem so others may benefit if they encounter same difficulty. This forum has been more useful for problem solving all the little quirks and fixes that this version has. Tech support has been courteous and they have tried to be helpful their suggestions just haven't helped me. Thanks Steve
