hotdog
I just upgraded my new PC to Vista Home Premium. I have about eight Roxio programs that are built into Vista that are showing in add/remove programs list. Do I need to remove all of these before installing EMC9? The Highlander
Yes the only Roxio software installed on Vista is the small burning ability to drag to cd in the file manager and burn cd's that way.... the same as there was in XP. No other burning apps included in any Vista copys. Make sure that before you do the clean install that you get the Roxio install disks from HP or that you have them first

Did your PC have Roxio already installed and you did an in place upgrade? I think it would be best to completely remove Roxio. In fact, you would have done better to do a fresh install of Vista but most likely, you have the upgrade version and not the full install version. Follow the Vista Clean install. hotdog
Those look like basic OEM versions that HP provided as part of the Vista disc they sent you. They are not part of Vista itself. So I would recommend that you uninstall them before trying to install your retail purchased version of EMC 9. You may want to follow the clean install instructions (noted below) after you uninstall those. Clean Install Instructions -Vista: http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000127CR Your probably right, but I also just bought a new HP PC for my wife with Vista already on it and it has Roxio basic on it also. Make sure that before you do the clean install that you get the Roxio install disks from HP or that you have them first Since my upgrade I have not made new recovery disks yet. I'm not even sure if the PC doctor utility will let me make another set. When I was using XP it would only let me make one set and I haven't tried since upgrading to Vista. Tom53002
I don't know what version of Vista you have, but with Vista Home Premium Roxio is built into it. I don't remember where I read this, but I belive Microsoft and Roxio made an agreement. It's a very basic program. It gives you a little bit of everything, but not the full package. Its an OEM thing. Probably an HP machine. Don't try to run EMC 9 yet. It doesn't work with the current Vista Builds.
gi7omy
Tommy - be accurate - what you mean is that YOU are having a problem. Other people have it working just fine in Vista. All I have is the upgrade version, but according to HP the only way you can upgrade from XP media center to Vista Home Premium is through a clean install. I didn't have Roxio on my PC before the upgrade. Vista comes with a very basic version of Roxio. I have eight programs that show up in my add/remove List. Should I remove these before I try to install EMC9 that I bought from a user on Amazon. Since I bought a used pice of software I didn't get any install instructions. All I got was two disks and the key code. It's EMC 9.05 Suite. On the back of the plastic case on the back label is a product number and Rev B. Do you know if this is even compatabile with Vista? Beerman
Not having the Premium version, I don't know what it has compared to the Ultimate version but I've never, ever heard anyone say that any version of Vista includes Roxio of any version. Perhaps your HP had Roxio OEM installed and when you did the upgrade, that carried over (I doubt this as well).

Because I bought my PC between Dec. of 2006 and Mar. of 2007 HP was offering free upgrades to Vista. When I got my upgrade it came with a HP disk labeled HP upgrade assistant. Maybe it was on that disk. All I know is that after the upgrade I now have Roxio on my PC. I just bought a new HP PC for my wife and she has Vista Home Premium on it and it has Roxio. That's why I just assumed that Vista came with Roxio.
