Video card fails to meet specifications; please upgrade

DRye

Question

I purchased/downloaded EMC 9 Suite on Friday evening. I installed it and worked with it for several hours. I have two projects mostly complete. When I tried to use the software Sunday, I got the following error: "Your video card fails to meet specs; please upgrade".

I have a Dell XPS machine (less than a year old) with a Radion X600 (256MB RAM) video card. I have not been on the web to get the latest drivers. I can't figure out why it worked on Friday and Saturday and does not work now. Any suggestions?

Any other insight to this problem would be appreciated. Please post your findings.

My Dell XPS 410 is just a few months old and the video card is well beyond the minimums for the software, (NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS w/256 MB) but yet, EMC9 now says (after using it for several months and several project later) that my video card isn't capable.

My drivers are up to date and I went ahead and reinstalled them just in case... with no effect.

Anyone else have success fixing this problem???

Greg

Greg, if it worked before, and it doesn't work now, you need to try to figure what changed on your computer.

That video card should be fine, but my 7900 will be the last Nvidia card that I buy. Back to ATI for me.

Not sure why it would wait two days to give you that message. I would just go get the latest drivers for your video card (from the manufacturer, DO NOT get them from MS updates) and update directx 9.

I've been following this posting. I have the same problem and have completed your suggestions and the error message continues. I have a via/s3g unichrome igp with 64mg video ram. have 960mb ram. the machine is only a year old. Is it possible that uninstalling and then reinstalling emc 9 now that the new drivers are all there would help. It is strange that originally I received the error message and was able to continue creating the dvd slideshow but it wouldn't burn. now it is totally sad when creating the dvd movie. I can copy dvds so the program is intact.

any other ideas? Thanks.

You have a real low grade onboard video chip. You could try updating the drivers for it, but I doubt seriously that it will work. Yours is not the same video card that the OP has.

My advice is to get a dedicated video card, if you have an AGP slot or PCI slot on your motherboard. Check your owner's manual to find out.

I FOUND MY SOLUTION!!! Thanks goes to a Dell tech.

Most likely, a program recently installed turned off Direct3D Acceleration. (darn kids) :)

Solution: Run "dxdiag" and hit the display tab. You can find the buttons there to correct/change settings.

Glad you found the solution. Your video card is high end, so there was no doubt that it would work well.

I did go to ebay and bought the readon 9550 256mb video card. It installed physically but the monitor wasn't happy with the card. I wasn't able to actually disable the onboard video chip. You know what ultimately worked? I went into the bios under advanced, went to video memory changed it from auto to 64mb, rebooted and upgraded my driver. Everything is now working. So I'm now selling two video cards on ebay. Probably won't get my money back but live and learn. I love the pan/zoom option on the dvd slide transition. My plant pictures are totally awesome. Now I can show off all my great landscape pictures.

Now I'm happy in Racine.

Jet,

Was not sure if it is the new 9550 vidoe card or the onboard S3/Chrome adapter that get EMC 9 working for you?

I also have the onboard VIA S3 VGA but I am using a ATI 128pro.. and have problem with EMC 9...

Judy, you can find many online stores to get a good video card from, at a decent price. That last place that I would go is to e-bay.

I had similar problem but my card met specs.

You need to check advanced setting on the card such as hardware acceleration.

Right click desktop>properties>settings>advanced>troubleshoot>hardware acceleration set to full.

Depending on your card, you may have additional settings that need to be adjusted.
