Emc 7 Wont Install - Help?

moparman7400

Question

I have a brand new copy of Roxio EMC 7 and I'm getting the following message on each attempt to install it.

"The wizard was interrupted before Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again. Click finish to exit the wizard."

I am running...Windows XP Home (ver. 2002) SP2 - Celeon® CPU 1.70GHz - 512 MB of RAM

I have a 48x CD-Rom and a 52x/24x/52x Sony CDRW...

I have more than adequate space on my hard-drive, and I've already tried shutting down all anti-virus, spyware blocker/killer programs and shutting down my firewall. I have checked my system against all current spyware and viruses and I'm clean.

Can anyone tell me what is causing this interruption during installation and how can I remedy the problem? It would be greatly appreciated.

I'm wondering if your system meets the minimum requirements for EMC7. Please check to make certain before you contact Tech Support.

Wonder no more. I'm not some newbie to computers. Reading the system requirements is a given. I wouldn't have posted my question here if I hadn't bothered to do the basics. :)

In an effort to better assist those who would assist me... I am posting a full descripton of the applicable system information that has been requested. I have no other applicable data than what you see below.

PLEASE NOTE: The system in question is a desktop PC...NOT a laptop. :)

System Information:

OS Name: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

Version: 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600

Hi,

Sorry for the off topic question, but what program did you use to generate the system info

you posted?

Thanks,

Davis

Video Card Information:

Name Intel® 82845G/GL Graphics Controller

That graphics controller chip is not compatible with the DirectX 9c 3D requirements of EMC 7.5 I had the same chip and had to update to a video card that is compatible.

Well, that may be, but it is still a good idea to post the system specs. It sometimes helps the people giving the help.

I posted my system specs on my initial post. Is there anything else needed? I believe I covered the OS, Service Pack Version, Processor, Ram and stated that the required hard drive space was available.

I have removed my BHA B's Recorder GOLD cd-burner program in the hopes that it would eliminate any possible conflict with the new installation of EMC7... but to no avail.

I still get the same "The wizard was interrupted before Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 count be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again." error. I checked the event logger under "My Computer" and it seems to show two repetative errors on my install attempts. An event ID: 7036... and an event ID: 10001

The 7036 description is as follows:

The IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service service entered the stopped state

The 10001 description is as follows:

Unable to start a DCOM Server: {8B1670C8-DC4A-4ED4-974B-81737A23826B} as /. The error:

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\8\Intel 32\IDriver.exe -Embedding is not a valid Win32 application. "

Happened while starting this command:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\8\Intel 32\IDriver.exe -Embedding

Both descriptions have a supposed link to microsoft.com for further assistance, but neither error is covered by their help section. (how convenient).

This is really frustrating me... any ideas? :)

I'd suggest that you try Roxio Tech Support.

I did some searching on the net and one of the suggestions was to update the video card drivers and you didn't mention if you had a video or sound card, so I have no idea if that would be helpful to you or not. You also didn't mention if this was a desktop or laptop which may or may not make any difference.

I know that some computers with Celeron chips have difficulty running some of the programs in EMC7, but that shouldn't affect your ability to install the program. How much room is left on your hard drive and have you defragmented the drive recently? ( I know, that's probably a dumb question, but I had to ask.)

You might see if there are any updates for your CD burner before you try installing again. I don't know if that error message is really telling you what is wrong, but based on what you've found, it couldn't hurt to update the burner if you can. EMC7 takes information on how to burn directly from the burner which is different than some older versions of the program.

Not sure why it would stop. Was there any other message that came up,maybe indicating a file or something?

And please don't post the same topic 5 times in one forum, once will do.

Sarcasm isn't needed. Solutions are. I wouldn't have mistakenly posted 5 times, had the forum server not goofed on me 4 times in a row...but thanks for the snide remark.

No other error messages or file references came up.

Maybe it started to installed but a conflict occured w/ something else on your system.

You don't have any other type of burning software like Nero, Sonic, etc installed. They may have some type of pack writing sofware on your system that may preventing the install. If so remove them.

If you do not, I Suggest you do the following;

1. Obtain the latest Window Cleanup utility and run this to see if Roxio is installed or partially installed. If so, remove it. Go to Microsofts sit and due a search

2. Obtain RoxioZAp and run it . You can obtain this on the Roxio Support site

3. Check for spyware/adware on your system?

Let us know the results

I have a program called "B's Recorder Gold" that I've used in the past to burn CD's. I will try removing that and try the reinstall of Roxio.

Before I install Roxio, I'll go ahead and try your other suggestions as well (just so everything is at optimal conditions for the install). I've already run AntiVirus/Anti-Spyware on my system. It's squeeky clean, as per the very latest definitions.

What is the best Windows cleanup program?

I'll get RoxioZAP and run that tonight.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions... I hope this will fix me up. I'll let ya know for sure.
