"Please insert a blank or rewriteable DVD DL"

Mulvie

Question

I've read through everyone's comments and I can't find a solution to my problem. I have a brand new Dell with Roxio Creator 9 and I keep getting the error message when I try to copy a DVD " Please insert a blank or rewriteable DVD DL. I can burn just fine using any other trial DVD copiers, but I don't want to have to huy one when I am supposed to already have a program that does it on my computer! I don't think it has to do with my burner (NEC DVD 3650a) as I also just got a new DELL laptop with a different burner (Toshiba) and I also get the same error message. My laptop runs Vista and my desktop is XP. I've tried updated my firmware and that didn't work. My driver also supports the DVD-R that I am using, so I don't know why is asks for a DVD-DL. The DVD-DL will work, but they are so expensive! And it doesn't make sense that i can use the burner with different programs (DVD cloner, Magic Copier, etc). So I don't think it's my burner, but a Roxio issue instead.

Appreciate any help I can get!

" Please insert a blank or rewriteable DVD DL. "

EMC9 started doing the same to me.

In my situation, the following occurs: After double clicking the ISO, the Roxio burning program opens and shows that I have a blank DVD inserted, and how much space will be left after the ISO is burned. This occurs with both regular and DL DVDs. But when I click the Orange burn button, Roxio ejects my disk, and asks for a blank one, giving the above message.

I have run a repair reinstall of my Roxio.

My DVD burner seems OK as I just burned two different ISOs to disk using a trial version of Nero.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Sounds like that is using the Roxio Home app for image burning (the former Sonic RecordNow type app). Instead, open Disc copier thru Start -> Programs ->.... then try using that to open and burn the ISO image file.

Thanks. I always appreciate the help you guys give us when in trouble. I wanted to report back because of this. It was the Disk Copy program, but a new installation of my software solved the problem even though a "repair" installation didn't.

What program in the suite are you trying to copy with? The Home copy app or Disc copier?

Magic DVD Copier, DVD-Cloner, are Commercial DVD copy protection breakers. Roxio won't do that.

It sounds like your trying to compress a DVD9 to DVD5. Disc copier will compress unprotected DVD's. I have no idea what programs the Dell Edition has.
