creating iso stops at 97%

Question

Hi

I am having problems creating a DVD, project is created and image creation is commenced, it gets to 97% overall then seems to sit there trying to encode menu with this progress at 0%

I am using a custom built menu, (don't know if this effects it) but can't see anything I've done wrong. All my video drivres, etc are up to date.

system spec is as follows

Dell 8200 P4 2.4Ghz, 1GB RAM 256MB Nvidia FX5200 Graphics Card

Win XP SP2

80GB Hard Disk (10GB free)

160GB Hard Disk (28GB free)

Anybody any idea's what to do?

You had mentioned that you are using a custom menu. To prove/disprove the menu as the cause...

- Burn the DVD with no menu. If it works then the issue points towards the menu and the above link may resolve your issue.

I see that you have followed the suggestions as posted and are still having hangs on burns. I had exactly the same situation, and tried the same referenced posts. Unfortunatly, they did not resolve my specific issue. (Just ask my x, she'll agree - I still have issues :) ) I did find a resolution, and I am able to recreate the problem. Basicaly, I was using a motion menu (the default one), but set it to still image durring my customization.

My post is at...

Hope this helps.

Many thanks to all for the advice, I shall give it a go tonight and report back!!

ISO creation still hanging at 97%. TRied running MYDVD9 from start menu but still hanging on the menu encoding.Even replaced the jpeg background with a .png (same format as roxio default background) but still the same.

Any other ideas?? ;)

Are the video drivers from Nvidia or Windows update?

Instead of opening MyDVD from the Roxio Home app, open it from Start -> Programs -> ...... Starting it directly like that will prevent problems like this.

Try to do it in Software Rendering instead of Hardware Rendering.

Have tried creating a menu template and my main disk is the D:\ as I installed fresh OS to try and cure issue in case other apps were causing problem

Although you may be using D as the destination, temp files get written to C before it finalises.

Clear all temps, including the internet cache and see if that helps

OK, Thanks, I'll give it a go,

Just as a point, it all seems to relate to the menu I am using, it is a custom menu and background is saved to png file format (same as roxio's own).

I have tried it with roxio default and this creates ok, but I want a particular image for my background, not the view of trees!!

What happens if you convert the png file to a jpg and use that as your background?

WOO HOO!!!! IT WORKED FOR ME!!!!!

I have this same problem. It encodes all the movies fine, then freezes when it gets to the end at ENCODING MENUS (sometimes at 97%, sometimes at 67% depending on how long the movie is). I got it to work when I created a brand new project from scratch with the same movie, but didn't change anything else in the style (and didn't try adding chapters). When I changed that new project to have a new background (both PNG and JPG) it went back to hanging.

I am waiting for 2nd try at fixing from Roxio Support, if they actually help and this is still open, then I'll post my resolution.

------------------------------------

Here is what they sent me to try fixing ... didn't work for me, but might work for you:

You will probably not need to use all of these steps so test after each one.

1.) Update to the latest version of Direct X from the Microsoft website below.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en

2.) Update your video drivers. (this is important)

To find out what video device you need to update you can click on start, run, and type dxdiag and press enter. Click the display tab at the top of that window and that will tell you the manufacturer of you video device.

3.) Disable startup & services:

For Windows XP:

a. Click on the Start button and select Run.

b. Type msconfig and click on the OK button or press the Enter key.

c. Select the Startup tab over on the right side.

d. Write down which items are checked, and then click on the Disable All button in the lower right corner of the screen.

e. Click on the Apply button.\

f. Select the Services tab.

g. Put a check mark in the box beside of Hide all Microsoft Services WARNING NOT CHECKING THIS BOX FIRST COULD CAUSE A WINDOWS COMPONENT TO BE DISABLED

h. click on the Disable All button in the lower right corner of the screen. Then recheck these two items roxmediadb9 & roxioUpnpRenderer9.i. Click on the Apply button and then click on OK.

j. Click YES to restart the computer.

k. When you reach the Desktop, you may receive a message saying you have used the System Configuration Utility to make changes to your system...., you get this message, simply place a checkmark in a box on the lower left side titled, Do not show me this message again and click on the OK button.

NOTE: To reverse these changes, follow steps a to c, and then place the checkmarks back in the boxes based on the notes you made. For optimal performance, only Anti-Virus or Firewall software should be enabled. (for this test all should be disabled)

4.) Start the ROXIO sub program you wish to use or created your program in from the Start, All Programs and select Videowave, MyDVD and DiscCopier as you wish. This is important that you open the program using this step instead of going through the home menu.

5.) After project is loaded or created, click Tools, Options, then select Software Mode.

6.) Under File Program settings if your show is under 1 hour..Choose HQ, High Quality, if over anhour choose Fit to Disc. Be sure to click the radio button to normalize the audio levels.

7.) Save your MyDVD creation.

8.) Select Burn button, then select Save as Image (ISO)

9) When complete close MyDVD and Open Disc Copier with the Start..All programs method. Burn the DVD from the ISO file. Note: Disk Copier will burn the DVD at the same quality found in the ISO File.

Do not select "Fit to Disc" if your video is over 1 hour at best quality since that will give poorer quality. Instead use the iso method and then Discopier to burn the iso file to DVD. DiscCopier compresses any iso file larger then the DVD size to fit the DVD and gives much better quality the using the "Fit to Disc" option

Hang problem while encoding when using Roxio EMC-9

I have been having problems with this program much the same as others. The biggest issue is with a “hang” mine being at 65% when creating a DVD of about 3.3 gigs.

I did all of the upgrades..

Direct X.. new upgrade for April/07

New video card… GeForce 5500 – 256 MB ram.

I was having absolutely no success. However, if I selected Standard Play buring the ISO image was no problem at all. The quality however, was not that great.

There were a lot of good suggestions in this forum and a lot of them I tried with all of them failing but never the less it did provide me with some learnings :D .

I tried using High Quality and fit to disk with no luck. I noticed when I tried to burn this size of file the encoding seemed to go “besoto” (old term for nuts). Anything around 1 gig. had no problems and all worked well.

In the end this is what I did and did get as good a DVD as I wanted which I am certain is everyones intent in this forum.

After your work is created and I cannot stress this enough always toggle the save project after everything you do while making your creation. Not sure if this is necessary but it worked for me.

I did not have to Disable startup and services.

1. go to tools>options and see whether your default is for Hardware or software rendering. If it is on hardware click the little test button to the right to see if the transition is smooth. Note that in hardware you will be able to use the 3D settings and my transitions are as smooth as silk. In software rendering this is not available. I suspect this has to do with the type of video card you have.

2. then go to file>project settings and toggle that. Make sure you normalize the audio.. Then on the right side of this page change to “custom”, if you forget this it will happen anyways when you do the following. Toggle the video to 704X480. You want good sound so change the audio to LPCM. Now up by the video there is a slider. Move it up. On a 3.3 gig DVD I was able to move it to around 7.5. This will give a much better picture. Note while on this page if you press F1 there is a help section. Once finished go back and whether this is necessary or not I did the following.

A – clicked on the menu animation.

B – saved the project again

3. now burn the ISO image..Mine went smoothly with absolutely no problems.

4. burn the DVD

5. sit back proudly and languish in the sense that you have produced something you can be proud of.

It is obvious Roxio has not been able to solve their problems with EMC-9. They either are woking on it or have no desire to or are hoping someone in this forum will solve it for them. I am dismayed at this and hope they will soon come up with a fix that will solve everyone’s frustrations, because it is not good to have frustrated consumers. Hopefully the above will work for you.
