Slow running program

Kelly Jean

Question

I read through mostly everything on this forum, and it’s a lot of help so thanks to everyone. But I’ve been having quite a few problems so I would just like to get any more advice anyone can offer me. I don’t have the program in front of me because it’s on another computer, so I have yet to try these tips out but they all sound like they will work out. I just got the Creator 9 last week so I’ve very new to the program.

I spent all weekend trying to make a video with around 300 pictures and a couple of video clips coming from 3 different DVDs I put on my computer with the Creator 9. I will be using transitions between every picture/clip and about 12 clips of songs. First off…do you think this is possible for this program to handle, or will it move too slowly to complete? I have a large amount of memory and internal memory and a lot of space on my computer so I thought that bringing up all these clips shouldn’t be a big deal, but I’ve been having problems. It seems to run slower and slower with the more things I add.

When putting pictures to my storyline, I did it in this order…added pictures, added transitions, added music, added more pictures, added more transitions. After a while of doing it in that order an error message kept coming up saying an error had occurred and the program would shut down. But it only happened when I put in transitions after transitions were already applied to other pictures. (I chose to just rewrite all the transitions) So then I tried just doing one transition for one picture at a time, and the problem still occurred. Is it just because of the order I did the steps in, or do you think that will continue to occur in the future….if I wait until the last minute to add all the transitions I don’t want to come to find the transitions will not work.

I put three DVS of home movies onto my computer with Creator. One video was saved with the chapters, and the other two were saved as a whole. So when I brought the whole video into videowave, the program ran really slow after that and then eventually I had to restart the computer. I cut a 10 second clip that I wanted out of the whole video (an hour long or so)…but the clip still contained the name of the whole video, and still had the time for the whole video…although it ran for the 10 seconds it was supposed to, and continued to run really slow. There were also many other clips I wanted from that DVD scattered through my storyline…but I’m not exactly sure how to get multiple clips from the one video and not playing one after the other. So I need to know how to do that, and also because they saved as a whole, will that make this process more difficult? I’m not sure how the other DVD saved with the chapters because we can’t remember how we did it. I should also add that I brought the whole video into my story line that already contained quite a few pictures that I will be using in the video. Should I do the video clips in another program/another “project” and then save them…and how do I save them so I can add them to my final VideoWave project?

As of now those are my big problems. My video has to be done by Monday so I’m starting to get a little worried because I can only work on it a few days this week. So I’m trying to avoid all the problems I possibly can so this can all run smoothly and not slow me down. I’m considering just starting from scratch again because I don’t have very much done as it is. But anyway, any of your advice would be very very appreciated, thank you!

I hope you found this post from the pm I sent you.

Sorry you did not get any responses yet. Really we need some information on your computer before there is much we can say. Is it a laptop or desk top? What is the CPU speed? Do you have a video card or do you have on-board chips? At least give us the model and any upgrades that you may have made.

Make sure you update DirectX 9c and the drivers for your video card/chip. Video Editing is very CPU intensive so you must have a clean computer with a lot of free space on your hard drive. Clean your computer by running at least two free malware removal programs and then defrag your hard drive. How much free space do you have?

Set your Windows program to best performance and not let Windows decide. Shut off any power saving features and your screen saver. Shut down all other running programs including your anti-virus (be disconnected from the Internet before you do this.)

mpg2 editing is slower than working with AVI files so if you can capture the DVDs into avi, things will go a little faster.

Also another tip, if you are doing a lot of editing and changing, every once in awhile, clear the proxy files bu going to the top menu in Video Wave and selecting tools, options and then clear proxy files. they will be immediately rebuilt with what you have in the project at that point and will get rid of some of the old stuff.

Once you provide some of that information, then the other problems can be attacked.
