Divx Issue in Deluxe

hydrant29

Question

Would appreciate assistance, please. First of all, I'm considering purchasing the download version of Deluxe. I have never been able to resolve the conflict between Divx and EMC9 and therefore been unable to work with any avi files. To quote my earlier message in the other section of this Forum earlier this year: I followed the instructions in the so called sticky. My win/sys32 contains the lower case "divxdec.ax" which I understand is the Divx version. After copying it to a safe place I started the "Repair/Change" of EMC 9.0. Part way thru, a dialogue box stated it could not find the ".msi" file and repair prog could not continue. A check of entire HD could not find that file either. So, I could not complete the "fix"! Now the question. knowing my issue, is there anything I should do before installing the Deluxe? If not, once I install Deluxe, should I try the "fix" again? Will the .msi file (needed during the "fix") now be there (incl in the Deluxe download)? I notice the Deluxe has a Divx Pro feature...does that mean I can uninstall the current Divx Creator prog? I hope this explanation is not too convoluted. Thank you.

There is something that might work. Go into your control panel and see if you have an entry for 'Divx codec'. If so, remove it and reboot and then run a repair install of EMC and see if that works.

Can you now play a divx file in your computer with WMP?

Yes! No prob playing any divx files in WMP. Only prob is that bcuz of the "conflict" I cannot import any divx file into roxio's dvd authoring prog which leaves the prog basically useless for dvd creations (except for mpg and vob files). Do you think the upgrade to Deluxe will include the missing file that does not now allow me to "repair" roxio using the "fix"?

If you can play divx in WMP then the divx codec is installed. Importing into EMC is another matter and there is a conflict as was stated in the fix you tried.

I'm not sure what to suggest. You might want to install the divx codec for divx.com then run the fix again to see if that works. I updated divx to the latest version, lost the ability to import divx/xvid files into EMC, ran the fix and I'm back in business. It might work!

But... just so I'm clear, the divx (from divx.com) has always worked fine it's just when I upgraded from emc 7.5 to 9.0 that the "conflict" arose. The only conflict symptom was roxio could no longer import divx files into its dvd creator progs. The "conflict" did in no way affect the playing of divx files on any player on the pc. When I tried the "fix" I got to the step where I "repair" emc 9.0. During that "repair" step, I got a dialogue box stating that a particular roxio file was missing (*.msi, can't recall what the * name was though I believe it was simply roxio) and the "repair" process was to be aborted. So now, with the possibility of upgrading to deluxe, will that install incl the previously missing *.msi file that will then allow me to (hopefully) complete the repair step? Appreciate your efforts here to help me. Hate to upgrade roxio if I'd still be unable to import divx to create dvds.

I'm back to no longer having any ideas to help you. I would question upgrade as well if I were in your shoes. EMC9 is very much different than 7.5.

Maybe someone else will have some better ideas. Sorry I have nothing else for you.

That .msi file is part of the Roxio installer.Do you have the downloaded version or the cd version? If you have the cd then when the box pops up,put your install cd in and use the browse button to point to it.If you have the download version then take your downloaded file and extract it to a folder on your harddrive and then point the pop up box at it using the browse button.
