EMC9 Upcoming Update : when ?!

linxeye

Question

Am I the only one here wondering when Roxio will finally release an update to EMC9 in order to correct the various bugs that affect the software and its international versions under XP or Vista ? Weren't we supposed to get a version 9.1 ?! What's up with that ? Is there an ETA ?

I always thought that for a class action to succeed that the thing had to be a complete failure - unfortunately, there are more who have it working than the number who have problems, ergo, the fault is not inherent in the suite - just individual installations.

btw - regarding 'Vista Compatible' - best sue MS for that (they're the ones who said it was prior to the disastrous zero day patch)

How are information these days come about?

You got the inner workings of one of the divisions (Roxio) of Sonic Solutions from the financial information?

I've never been able to do that. You must have insider trading information (probably not correct) from someone. I wouldn't advertise that - look at what happened to Martha.

linxeye is right.

The so called patch was only created and QA'ed just in the last few weeks.

While, at the same time, EMC10 was the main focus of the engineering team.

Which, has already been gold mastered.

The suggestion and advice to solve any EMC9 issues in the near future will be, 'You Need EMC10'.

Good luck.

So..Adeptec > Roxio > Sonic > TBA

Care to share how you came to this information?

The truth part was about EMC 10. And BTW I'm perfectly aware of the Amazon release date for the US. For us european it should be around october though.

Knowing that 9.1 has been released a while back as a full software package, knowing version 10 is just around the corner I think it pretty much put things in shape. Come on guys it doesn't take six months to put up a patch ! Wake up... There are many software automating this process (RTPatcher to name one of the most famous).

There is absolutely no excuse beside Roxio's lack of commitment or will on this matter and I don't even understand how you guys can support a company that exhibit such a poor behaviour.

I'm not saying I disagree with your opinions, I was just wondering where you got your "truths" (facts) from, because the way you stated it makes it sound like you know something different than what the Sonic/Roxio people have posted. They say they're working on both, you stated they're only working on v10.

I also think you'll find that most of the regular posters aren't any happier about the issues and delays with the 9.1 update either. Some of us just aren't as vocal about it I guess. Some of us have been users of their products going way back to the days when it was Adaptec, then became Roxio, and is now owned by Sonic, so maybe some of us have been more wiling to give them the benefit of a doubt given their past track record of providing updates that they have said they would. Again, patience will only go so far tho.

So the "truth" statement is just your opinion of the 9.1 update and what Roxio/Sonic is doing, you don't have any factual or first hand knowledge about it?

Ok so let me tell you the truth. EMC 9.1 code was signed off a long long time ago. Now all Roxio engineers are working on EMC10 and they don't have enough human resource to work on the patch for EMC 9.xx. That's as simple as that.

If you ask me what I think, I wouldn't have enough harsh words to describe such an attitude. Worst thing being the fact they pretend creating a patch is hard or difficult. That's total BS just like the testing blahblah. They don't give a #$^@ about their customers, point. In a one year timeframe Roxio has shipped 0 patches for EMC9. In the same timeframe Nero has released so many new updates that i've lost the count. Somethings is rotten at Roxio...

If they really care about their customers they'd have given a download link to the full version of the software if creating a simple patch is such a nightmare.

If you refer to "EMC 9.1 code was signed off", I speak about the full version of the software which shipped a long time ago. The patch story is a total nonsense : if they succeeded in making you believe that creating a patch is hard then I don't know what to say. It's not rocket science unless their testers is in the end a single handed tester ?

Regarding EMC10... october sounds like a reasonable timeframe.

If you think that they want to make this situation worse than it already is, what's the logic in that?

It's already been posted that Amazon is shipping EMC10 on 9/25. Some reports say 9/5.

Just how do you know this? They've said it was in testers hands and that they found a problem and are trying to fix it. Where did you get this info from?

Roxio is great at pointing the finger at other companies. I was told the reason that EMC 9.0 doesn't work right is because of Microsoft and Nvidia! LOL

I can't recommend this software to anyone

Class action suit, anybody? Roxio is the worst.

They are lying when the say 9.0 is Vista compatible. False advertising.

I called to get some patches for 9.0 yesterday, they just gave me a driver update for NVIDIA video card . .. that was "going to solve everything". it did't do anything.

Go for it Mitch! I am sure they are shaking in their boots with fear …

And again I bump this topic with an additional post. It was the end of May the last time I decided to chime in on the subject and now here we are at the end of July and still no 9.1 patch available on the site. I will say that there is an update for BackupMyPC but that is hardly this big patch we've been listening to everyone talking about for so long.

As far as the comment about angry users I think that they are out there in force now and many just don't bother to post on boards like this and listen to all the beatdowns and attitudes from the "uber" posters. I don't let that stop me because something does need to be said and people need to be reminded of the pitiful support that Roxio has given on this product.

I will say that I haven't used an updated version of these programs since version 7 and it worked fine the entire time. That in part is the reason I fell for the sucker e-mail about getting such a great deal for version 9. I don't believe in swearing I'll never use a newer version of some company's product but I will say this will weigh very heavy on my decision the next time I decide to upgrade.

I can use the software with some success on Windows XP but I bought it for a Vista machine and needless to say it's still useless there. Lockups are more common than the program actually starting. Before any of you begin preaching "how it worked for you" I have tried all of that. I actually even fell for the "reload your machine and install it first" trash that everyone is spouting. Reloading my machine to get their program to work is unacceptable in the first place not to mention I was dumb and desperate enough to try it.

This will be my final post on this since it is obvious that Roxio would rather put their money into spamming me to buy this version of their software (and yes I requested to be removed from the mailing list and it hasn't seemed to help) than pay their coders to develop a patch for this product. Funny how someone that has purchased the product continues to get spammed to buy the product again. If it doesn't work now what makes you think if I pay for it again it will work Roxio?

One last comment about Roxio as well since I'm into a rant now. Any company that provides a forum but won't provide comments on it is a poor business. You give us somewhere to post these issues then ignore them. Good strategy there. Make us think you care but never respond.

Shame on your Roxio for abandoning your customers in such a way.

I thought I could not wait for the possible updates/patch, so tried a different route.

Formatted C Drive, installed Vista Home Premium, and updates.

Did NOT install anti-virus at thsi stage as Vista will protect the PC.

Disconnected internet prior to Install of Roxio EMC 9 Deluxe.

Works fine now with no glitches!

Then installed my other programmes and all is well!

Give it a try it may work for you.

Yorkei Jack

I agree your way may be the best as a clean install is great but for many, this is too much! The average user either can't or won't start over just to install a program so it should work via a standard install and not break anything when it does.

I've always started fresh but this is just not an option for most folks.

"I'm just giving them the benefit of the doubt that it is being worked on,...."

That's probably the best approach to have at this point Nerus. My guess is that they are doing everything they can to get this new update out so the "angry users" will be on their way to using EMC again and will be asking questions about how to use the program rather than why the program doesn't work.

You do realize that people have been saying that for months now? Any day now sucker, any day now.

Heh, I'm not defending Roxio's stance on lack of information concerning the status of this magic patch.

I'm just giving them the benefit of the doubt that it is being worked on, otherwise, there will be alot of angry users.
